400E/500E Custom Exhaust

Well, all you W124/M119 owners, who is seriously interested in a custom manifold-back high flow exhaust system with quick-change catalytic converters? One of my fellow owners has a line on a fabricator that will do a system righteously-all mandrel bends, in either aluminized steel or Stainless. Would allow for the quick removal of the catalysts, their being replaced with straight pipes when not on your way to or from emissions testing (*For Offroad Use Only-there, I said it).

Expected cost for a SS system is less than $2k, likely closer to $1,500. Aluminized steel would be half that amount, approximately. Based upon the number of interested parties, the price will clearly come down as the fabricator would construct a jig.

PLEASE only respond if you have one of these cars, and are seriously interested in doing this. I know we all want one, but unless you're in a position to/need to buy one of these setups, I'd appreciate if you'd treat this as a read-only. I'd sorta like to avoid having started another 20+ page thread

I am interested. Just to clarify this is going to be a bolt-on system?

Michael,

Has anybody discussed or thought about doing headers and exhaust? For our 928's we have a complete system that adds around 40RWHP to the 4 valve models. I have seen the cars dynoed so I know its real. The headers are beautiful equal length jobbies with various tube sizes based upon displacement. The exhausts are single 3.5" and can be configured with or without high-flow cats and either 0, 1 or 2 high-flow mufflers. On a GTS just like mine with 2 cats and 2 exhausts the car put down 334RWHP with no other mods. Stock they're around 290-300. I know our engine bays are tight, but so is the 928. The cost installed is $3K and I know these guys are making some bucks. Headers are jet-hot coated and exhause is steel and they paint them with high temp paint.

I'm just wondering what exhaust alone will get us without headers.

Randy

The system will assuredly be bolt-on.

I'll look into headers-but FWIW I think a 500E is even tighter than a 928, hence the multi-piece stock manifolds-remember, Porsche actually PLANNED to put the V-8 in there!
As to what this will be worth beyond looking real cool and lasting forever, I really can't guess-assuredly we'll have to get a car on a dyno for before/after testing

Put me down as a maybe, pending a dyno and final pricing.

I got a custom exhasut on mine. All stainless from Cat back.
My friend has a tuning co here in southern calif. Called RBTECH
they do awesome. I got mine for free. Did some favors for him.
It sounds intense.

Hey Daesun. I saw you car at my friends bodyshop, last night we had an anual BBQ. They do the best work around. You will be very satisfied. The hood, fender and the drivers side is all primered at this time. To do a perfect color match.

Wussup, Guido. That's good to hear, man. I can't wait to have her back. I'm getting so sick of my rental (Chevy Mailbu). Thanks again for the recommendation. Really nice guys over there. You'll have to show me your custom exhaust sometime. I want to get one eventually, but I need wheels first.

In re headers and their worth:

Someone, somewhere, must have those costly RENNtech headers. A dyno run would no doubt shed some light on the worth of headers in this particular application.
