Cross-drilling crankpins???
MBDoc, Speedtek, Benzmac and any others who might be able to help out,

1. Is cross-drilling the crankpins a smart thing to do?

2. Will it actually increase total flow?

3. Will the oil flow back and forth through the cross-drilled part and actually decrease average flow?

4. Do the crankpins need to be ground after this is done?

5. If it's so great, why didn't the car have it done stock? Because of the additional machining costs or increased oil flow?

Thanks so much! The 16V turbo rebuild is coming along quite nicely!

Not needed on MB cranks! Howeve if you want more oil volume then replace the front cover. The replacement front cover 1988 & later has a oil pump with 40% more capacity.
MB part nunber 102-010-51-17.
This cover was designed for double row timing chains & for the 2.5 16V engine.

Thanks MBDoc!
Is there a specific reason why MB cranks don't need this?
