eibach pro kit springs on 225/45/17in - will it rub the fenders?
 

good day mates!

i need your "proffesional" and personal experience advise.

i'm planning to put eibach pro-kit springs on my E220 W124.

Current set-up:
225/45/17in tires
stock springs & shocks
spring pads : front- 3 bumbs & rear- 2 bumbs.

from what i've gathered, the drop on eibach springs will be about 1-1.25 in.

If I switch to eibach pro-kit springs with the same tires & spring pads, is there a possibility that the tires will rub the fenders, under normal & daily driving conditions?

if there is a possibility, will the use of thicker spring pads solve it?

valuable inputs will be highly appreciated.

Roll the fenders
 

Hard to say, without first knowing the offset of your "aftermarket" wheels. If they have standard offsets they quite possibly MAY rub when you have a FULL passenger load or a load in the boot or full tank of petrol. But will probably be okay when its just you though. The trick is to roll those fenders. SUBMAN did a post to benzsport.com with photos of how to roll your fenders. I "rolled" my rears on my 400E with a HAMMER:eek: .
You have to be careful and really know/watch what you're doing. Just did a little of the lip at a time and gradually closed it up against itself. Turned out great, no chipping,flaking, rusting, etc.
Before trying to correct with pads, I'd first trying the roll trick.

same pad set up with the pro kit...I just posted on this about a week ago also. It dropped it a lot more than I had expected. It looks like those 205/55/R16s dimpled the fenders. I would suggest rolling them or slightly rolling them. 225/45/R17s might hit. Could you tell me your rim offset, and width, maybe I can do some calculations? I have a 225/45/R17 mounted on a 8 inch wide rim ET28. I can check for you.
