Is my AMG really an AMG?

I own a 1983 EURO 500 SL, it has AMG full spoilers and badge on the rear, now, how do i know it is a real AMG? That it was bought like that? I'm the third owner and the guy that sold it to me did not know either if it is original or the badge and spoilers were installed later. Any help will be appreciated. Take care.

I think it would not have been bought like that, there was no SL500 AMG then that I know of, especially if the rest of the car appears to be standard SL500

The spoilers may be genuine AMG if you're lucky though:cool:

I'm pretty sure that AMG's had a tag/certificate mounted in the engine bay stating the details of the modifications and a serial number.

I've seen many AMG body conversions without any engine work.

If you have a body kit on the car then you probably also have an aftermarket suspension to lower the car and close the gap between the tire/fender. You might want to check your springs to determine who manufactured them, that might also be a giveaway.

Hope this helps.
