Shipping my 500E to Europe and back?
I'm going to Europe in the spring of 2004. I wonder what it would be like to ship my 500E there and back? I'm assuming that there would be no mods needed to bring it into Europe, and, of course, all the Us work has been done. I think it would be a blast to take my car on the autobahn. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Tom,
Try calling Martin Button at Cosdel in San Francisco; they arrange for secure car transport to Europe and their reputation is excellent. 777.2000 |
Companies in Germany will rend you some fairly exotic cars that might be fun trying out ;)

I believe the going rate to ship a car to Germany is around $1100.00 (one way). There is a time limit associated with using the US plates before it has to be registed on the German system, not sure how long it is.
Once you get your 500E over here, take it to the Nuerburgring and pay approx $5-10 for a lap. Weekends are usually open drive days (www.nuerburgring.de). I took a lap in a friends in his S4......it was a kick in the pants! All sorts of cars driving around. We got smoked by a VW Bus with a Porsche engine! Jeff |
Nah, go on a Saturday - motorcycle day. What a riot, I got passed by a bike doing a wheelie with a passenger! The most fun I had was diving inside 2 VW golfs going at it, I got 'em at the carousel (wait 'til you see THAT turn - drive it down low, in the steep banking)
Last year it was around $9 a lap...I'd buy a morning pass:) |
Tom,
Check on the insurance. From my experience all the other problems are virtually non-existent. At one point I wanted to ship my 1991 M5 to Europe but I could not find any firm to have it insured. Marek |
