500ce?

Ok, dream question, but here goes.

I have a chance to purchase a 500E with 25k miles, with body damage, for $7k. Is it worth buying to put the motor and transmission into my 300CE? It would be a complete donor car, but I am still leary.

My concerns are:

1: Is it really possible?
2: How would this effect the value of my car?
3: Make more sence to turbo my CE?

More curious to what people think, and the actual possibility of doing this.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I think that would be a seriously tough install - you'd need to move the firewall, splay the frame rails, and who knows what else. Your tranny wouldn't be able to handle the V8, so you'd need to modify the trans. tunnel to accomodate the 500E tranny.

Sorry not to have better news for you, but this is just some of the stuff MBZ did to get the M119 into the W124 chassis

Where's the body damage on the 500E? Front, rear, side(s), combination?

The 500E had considerable physical changes to fit the 500E engine & tranny.

If the front-clip of the 500E is in good shape, you could cut your front clip out, and replace with the 500E.

You would still have to modify the transmission tunnel to fit the 500E tranny.

If you have the time to have your car of out of commission for 6-months, then go for it.

PS: if you don't get the damaged 500E, perhaps you can let others in this forum have at it.

I personally would like to find a 500E with rear-end damage, and graft a W124 wagon to it . . .

I've always wanted a 500CE and thought it would be the perfect car.

Unfortunately, the conversion may be too cost prohibitive.

Good luck in your research and ultimate decision.

Neil, remmeber if you change that wagon into a 500te, I got first dibs on that c36 enigne and tranny. hehehe

there is a 300ce for sale on ebay right now, sans engine and trans, ready for a build up. full amg bodykit, Hammer wheels, it was being prepper for an m117 engine transplant, and has like 14k on the car. its an 88, looks realy nice. I'd buy it in a second if I could afford it and drop in an engine and tranny for sure. hehehe It could be a sweet project.

firewall mods

Hard to tell but the 300CE on ebay looks like it may have the Hammer firewall mod that relocated the battery to the trunk. It was done to fit the M117 with the wider 32v heads.

That may make the M119 drop in somewhat easier.

Still going through one of these projects, yet i'm tempted- what's wrong with me?

Thanks for your reply's! Greatly appreciated. Figured it was too good to be true.

The E500 is a 94, it apears in the pictures to be slightly hit on the sides. althou the rear tires apear splayed. It is in the Auto Hunter magazine, page G42, upper left corner.

The add states:

"94 Mercedes E500, 8cyl, auto 25K miles, damage to left and right side, stk #X270 $7600".

"www.borgesauto.com" Phone 800-662-6250.

Maybe some one can get some use out of it. I will probably pass.

Thanks again for all your input. Guess I have awoke from my dream!

No man, don't say that...don't you ever say that again.....Always go after your dreams..trust me...nothing is impossible....If you really, truely wanted to do this you would...don't give up like that..I use to be just like you...I would always listen to exactly what people would say...dood, if you want to make that car, you can do it..but mostlikly you can find the parts for cheeper than buying that entire car...but on the other hand, you can use what you want, and sell the rest of it....I could tell you right now that the front of that car could be clipped and sold for an easy $2,000 if not more..thats just the front...Think abt it....I worked at my uncles MBZ junkyard for two years...I wouldn't be supprised if you came out on top in the end.

Thanks for caring!

I dont mean I gave up, just figured it would make more sence to me, to just get a 500E/E500 then to mod my car. After all the mods, $, and work, I would still have an older car with high mileage. I have 195k mi on the coupe now, and Im happy with its performance, but the V8 would be nice.

Thanks again!

That looks like a perfect parts car, the front end looks great as does the rear. I'm sure many of the interior components are still perfect considering the car only has 25K miles on it!

why don't you just clip the front end of the 500 in place of your coupe? then you'll have a V8 w/low miles and the wide body, and most of all fast as a MOFO think abt it...
