W140 E/S Switch
Yes, the W140 E/S switch placement and cover plate are different. We're in the process of putting these kits together as well.

I will be at . . .
Berg Werks on Saturday about 10am to have them install their Control Module. So stop by and say hello.
Will be taking pics for inclusion on my web page. Since my C140 will be one of the first to have it installed, we should get some good pics. |

Berg Werks . . .
installed their FGS module on Saturday. The only bad parts were the heat, 94degs F and the traffic going home! Took 1hr 45 mins from my house to Berg Werks: Took FOREVER to get home!
But Carl and Steve installed it and it's simply marvelous. Just like a new car. Can't imagine why Mercedes didn't include a switching method so the first gear could be used. But BW have solved that problem forever with their FGS. Have started a web page showing the installation on my car under MENU #22. Page link: http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_S500.html |

Jim, That is a great addition to your great site, I wait with interest to see the rest. I ordered my 1st gear start module today for my 500E and have to say I have had first class service from Carl so far, especially as he has to ship parts to me half way across the world. I have ordered the standard module and Carl has managed to save one of the E/S switches for me too. It mentions a crimper in the tooling but I usually solder my wiring, so we shall see when it arrives . . . .
What a wonderful site and what wonderful people, thanks all !

Glad that Neil bought this. . .
marvellous electronic machine to our attention!
I've finished the page at least to the 97% point so go have a look. MENU #22 You will be pleased with the FGS operation. I too prefer soldering if you can get to the wires easily but crimping with the right size ferrule does just as well. We had a little difficulty because, believe it or not, nobody had a radio removal tool!! So tomorrow morning, I'm going to order two (2) sets. Guess who the second set is for??? That added alot of time since the wiring connector is literally jammed into the back of the car when the radio is not removed. But, other than the heat, it was fun. Oh, forgot! The g#%@*damm LA traffic is just un-bearable. But that's another story. |

As a footnote. . .
today, after driving to my tech's shop, I noticed a small stream of 'liguid' coming from the front of my car!
Guess what? It's the infamous water pump seal. So tonight, I'm driving a Neon! New wp tomorrow. Of course, it could have happened while coming back from Van Nuys in 95F heat in the fourth lane on the parking lot I405! So I count my blessings. 102K miles |

Jim- thanks for posting pics and providing impressions for us.
Neil was up here in the SF Bay Area this past weekend to participate in the N Cal 500e Meet. He was kind enough to allow a test drive with his fresh Bergwerks full package deluxe (w/ cheese on top) install and I felt like I was in James Bond's car with all the secret agent buttons (ASR defeat switch, W/S mode switch, Reprogrammed Trans Shift Button, along with the standard trans selector- - lots to tinker with). Thanks again Neil!!! A totally funnnnnn test drive! Scott Shell also attended and we got a test ride in his Renn'd out 500e w/ ASR defeat too! Almost too much funn for the little ticker to take! FYI- my car was running a bit warmer than usual that weekend in 80-95 degree ambient temps (w a/c on) and we noticed a smidgen of coolant seeping from the overflow cap... I r/r'd the coolant overflow cap last night, and Happy Happy- - she's back to running an 85 degrees steadyon the gauge (75+ degree ambient temps in stop and go city blasts) best regards -fad PS- Neil fyi-, playing with a friends G-tech in the past showed .5sec better 0-60mph Last edited by -fad; 09-25-2002 at 01:03 PM. |

Will this first gear start mod work with a 1990 300SE W126 car? Are the transmissions the same in all 86-91 W126 cars?
Thanks, Dan

No, our unit only works for V8 and V12 Mercedes vehicles from 1982-1995.
The Six cylinder W126 cars do have a different transmission than the higher-powered counterparts. Satish |

Any chance of Bergwerks making a control unit for a 6-cylinder W124 (300E)?

No, we can't do the 6 cylinder first gear start by electronic means at this point. 4 and 6 cylinder cars using the M103 and M104 engines will require a valve body modification to allow proper 1st gear starts.

Valve body mods
Naturally, we offer these valve body mods as well. $300 or $500 depending upon the year and model.

It's a 1989 300E.
If the valve body mod is installed does it mean the car will then always start in first? (as opposed to being able to control the start - I like the winter setting idea). thanks.

Yes, the car will always start in 1st gear. Just like the later W124 do.
There is no defeat feature for a 2nd gear start. Satish |

What is involved with the valve body install, any pictures of it or instructions?
