Hey guys,

Check out www.movit.de
You can put Porsche brakes on your Mercedes...They look REALLY badass...Take a load of this W124 w/ the Porsche brakes and 17" OZ rims...VERY nice!!! They got other pix of Mercedes w/ Porsche brakes...

After reading what their brakes do compared to some of the others, I would jump on them in a heartbeat. Only one thing I didn't like, they still have Porsche written on them. If I have a Mercedes, I want it to say Mercedes or something from a Mercedes Tuner, or nothing at all.

I am with you here, Chirago. I am sure it will improve the brake alot. But the "PORSCHE" word on the caliper will NOT do(Unless on a 500E/E500, which is partially Porsche.. )

I would go for Brembo kit, which will also include steel brake fluid line for some models. Or something from Mercedes tuners...

BTW, did I mention that Porsche/Ferrari/Mercedes brakes are design/co-design by Brembo??? Why paid someone to get brakes from Porsche then install on your car when you can just get it from Brembo??

If it becomes a matter of taste what your calipers say then change it!
The sport calipers are all aluminum so what they say can easily be removed. There used to be a Porsche tuner in Germany that sold many Brembo kits but he took the calipers and ground/milled off the letters P,O,C,H and E. His name was Reinhold Schmirler so what was left was RS or rennsport. Not too complicated is it?

Guido makes make set ups for almost all cars. He can change the lettering to anything you want. They are the Porsche/Brembo system which is supposed to be excellent-like throwing an anchor out the window. The new upgraded system is due out soon. It's expensive, but worth it.

Well after reading the upgrade process, I would go with them because of the extra ventilation work done.

I overheard from M5 camp that one respectable turner explaimed to a M5/porsche brake owner why the GT3 brake does not work that well on his M5--Cause Porsche brakes were designed specially for Porsche cars' weight distribution!!

Happy mortoring,

Mov'it

I am VERY excited about the Mov'it solutions/big brake kits for my 500E.

I plan to pursue this project, ASAP... and I look forward to having the PORSCHE script on my (yellow) calipers!

It's been quite common to bolt on the 996 brakes and rotors in the Audi and VW circles...and a couple of months ago I helped a friend do the conversion on his S6...like Gary says...stops like stink but also adds a ton of weight to each corner...if you are concerned about that stuff. I think it looks patrticularly cool on a 500E and the gloss black calipers are available too...about the same price as putting on SL600 brakes and rotors with twice the stopping power. If I needed brakes...I'd do it toot sweet.

Can anyone comment on this conversion vs. the 400E brake conversion for the 190E?

Honestly, unless you track the car, it makes 0% difference. I swapped to 600SL rotors, which being 20mm larger in diameter translates to approximately a 20% increase in stopping 'leverage'...however, no way you can tell. They feel pretty much the same, subjectively, but now I can run OE pads on a track day, whereas I used to have to run race pads.

My 2% of a buck says that any of these upgrades are a waste of $$$ unless you track the car; then you will realize increased fade resistance, but nothing more. These cars really stop fabulously right out of the box

clarification

I *do* plan to track/race my car - but not until I have bigger brakes that can afford me the option of using OEM pads.

After all, I'm not a plastic surgeon...

Question MOVIT CALIPERS

Does anyone know if the MOVIT calipers are a direct bolt-up for the 1992 500E ? Also the cost of their calipers ONLY ? Do their calipers add weight as compared to factory setup ? I already have new cross drilled rotors, pads and SS lines, not willing to buy all MOVIT parts, only the calipers, ANYONE ? thanx for imput in advance, BTW, I dont mind the Porsche lettering on my 500E

You can have them say anything you want...they give you a choice on the web-page if you look closely its an extra $100ea.. to have custom writing!

in a word: OVERKILL!!!

the danger is that your brakes will overpower whatever grip your tires have and you'll wind up killing off tires or overworking your ABS.

400E calipers are plenty and are bolt on for 16vs and 2.6s. 500E and 600SL calipers would require a little more work (and $$$) and you don't really gain much.

I'm going to go for 500E calipers on my 16v only because I can get my hands on the original, aluminum 500E calipers. Unfortunately, they're still on a my dad's 500, so I'll have to get 600SL brakes so i can swap them off *l* Otherwise I'd be going for 400E calipers.
