my 1993 500E video is up

OK, my friends...

I have ditched Microsoft IIS because it BLOWS CHUNKS (any "Get a Life" fans, out there?); I am now running Apache 2 (Win32) on an Intel installation of Microsoft .NET Enterprise Server (RC-1).

My 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E website is at:

http://www.nemonis.net

By my estimate, the 118MB .mov file ("run_exe_small.mov") will take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to download, depending upon your Internet circuit speed.

I would be interested to learn how long it takes each of you, respectively, to download said movie ("run_exe_small.mov").

Henceforth, I will keep all movies under 50MB/90 seconds, once I have found a "happy medium"/balance between compression codecs and spatial resolutions. I agree that (spatially) tiny movies are WEAK (they are a TEASE); however, few (if any) of us have dual-homed DS-3/OC-128 circuits. In a perfect world...

Perhaps mercedesshop.com or ///benzsport.com might consider a "Video Gallery" section - assuming prerequisite disk space and bandwidth exist. If not, I am happy to post members' (of ANY MBZ-forum) 500E/E500 videos on my site (I have disk space to spare).

In summary, I apologize for the relatively slow speed of my xDSL circuit; however, it remains my hope that I can continue to contribute to this forum in a meaningful and entertaining manner.

Thank you for your patience, friendship, and common fanatiscm for all things Mercedes-Benz!

Kind regards,

YIKES

I will investigate and attempt to correct my bandwidth bottleneck, ASAP, the evening of WED 18SEP02.

In a worst-case scenario, I will have fixed all problems NLT 1800 hours PDT SAT 21SEP02.

I would be interested to know different users' download speeds.

RSVP / Thank you,

site migration

All:

As of this writing, my site should be reachable.

Things should be much faster, now; please share your results.

all you need to do to view the movie is listed, below:

1) right-click on the QuckTime move file (target) link
2) left-click "save target as"
3) select a save destination/location on your hard drive
4) download and install the free Apple QuickTime player: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
5) pop some popcorn
6) check it out
7) share your results/thoughts

RSVP / thanks,

W-O-W!!!
VERY nice car!! It took me exactly 8 hours and 16 minutes to dl the 200+ meg file. I have a cable modem; however, my downloading speed was around 8.2-8.6 kbps. The quality of the film is descent. What kind of Mini DV camcorder did you use? Capture software? The portions of you driving on the highway were tight!
I live in the Bay Area and commute to USF every day, and I could have sworn I saw your car on 19th once...I had but a cursory side-view, all it took to slam on my brakes in-hopes of a better view, hehe, you were passing by quickly.
Again, SWEEEEET ride!!! I wish I had a 500 rather than 300 124...closest I am right now are my euro 500e headlights

Well it took me about 35 minutes to download late last night using cable modem. Unfortunately I can't seem to get the video to work.

Right now when play it the sound works perfectly and the box opens up to show the movie in Quicktime however no video is showing. Any help would be appreciated.

Death Alley Driver

(any Rainbow fans...?)

: )

Thanks for the compliments; actually, I'm going to storyboard the next video and edit it so it's a little tighter.

To answer the posted questions:

- 19th Avenue? yep - that was me (returning home from TRAFFIC SCHOOL!)

- I shoot with an ENG-type Sony PD100a DVCAM (3-chip) digital camera + shotgun mic

- I use a Western Digital IEEE 1394 FireWire CardBus framebuffer

- I use Adobe Premiere to compress/resize/edit the digitized video

My goal is to make 2 or 3 videos/month.

Stay tuned...

Scott,
I like the video! Will you make the larger version available? It took about 30 minutes to download here at work...UCSD campus has a T3 through SDSC.

Looking forward to the next one!

DS-3 junkies

Wow - UCSD has a DS-3, you say?

Nice. I wish I had that kind of bandwidth!

I have re-posted the large (273MB) version; enjoy...

I will work on the next video, this weekend.
