good news for those who lust for CARBON-FIBER airboxes, etc

Everyone:

I am VERY happy to say that Mr. Thomas Queen, of Feather Carbon (VA), has completed a mold of the upper half of a large-volume airbox (to replace the OEM/smaller-volume, upper half) - for all V8 (1992-1995) Mercedes-Benz automobiles - and (in my opinion) it is CLEANER/NICER LOOKING THAN the versions offered by Precision Auto Designs/Performance Products (cheesily-finished plastic/flaky paint) and RENNtech (carbon-fiber + badge).

- Precision Auto Designs/Performance Products (plastic) : $549 + $400 core charge
- RENNtech: $950 + (TBD core charge)

*** Feather carbon's carbon-fiber airbox offering will available for a FRACTION OF THE COST OF CURRENT, MARKET OFFERINGS !!!

Currently, I am having my fuse-box lid, control module lid, and many other engine-bay plastic parts re-made in carbon fiber. Since Mr. Queen will keep all molds, thereof, this represents an EXCELLENT opportunity for all V8 (1992-1995) Mercedes-Benz owners to update their engine bays and squeeze out extra performance for a fraction of other vendors' prices!

For the skeptics in the crowd, I will show the final results @ the 01DEC02 Mercedes-only event in San Jose, CA, in addition to posting images to my website; I believe Mr. Queen will update his website, too, ASAP.

In summary, Mr. Queen can fabricate almost ANY part (for ANY application/ANY vehicle/ANY climate) in carbon-fiber. All interested parties should contact him, directly, per his contact data (see below) to inquire about pricing, et cetera:

I am very excited to see and enjoy the results of Feather Carbon's highly recommended work.

Thanks to Kühl Carbon for the referral!

Get psyched !!!

Thanks run.exe for the info. I've emailed Mr. Queen and asked him about supplying me with Carbon Fiber goodies for my C43.

Thomas Queen

I have invited Thomas Queen to join ///benzsport.com; if he does (he's pretty busy making all our parts, we must realize), he can answer our questions, directly...

my $0.02: i wish that benzsport.com would ENABLE E-MAIL NOTIFICATION, like mercedesshop.com - since it makes staying up-to-date SO MUCH EASIER for those of us who don't have time to review every single thread to which we have contributed!!!

(just some food for thought... mmmmm.... TASTY!)

1992-1995 V8 Mercedes-Benz carbon-fiber airbox pricing

All:

Thomas Queen (Feather Carbon) has just informed me that he will make large-volume, carbon-fiber airboxes for V8 Mercedes-Benz vehicles, per the pricing schedule, below:

- $450, outright, plus any/all shipping charges (NO core charge*)

* customer is responsible for providing OEM airbox

Please note that this is approximately $100 CHEAPER than the >>cheapest, *PLASTIC*<< airbox for V8 Mercedes-Benz vehicles!!!

This is a NO-BRAINER: GO FOR IT!!!

Sounds cool...I'd like to get a quote on a custom hood with NACA ducts or something.

BTW, how does his/the carbon fibre hold up with all the underhood temps in a 500E...all the RennTech airboxes I've seen (3) turn brown and brittle after a few months?

discoloration

Jim:

I believe Mr. Queen uses a thick clear-coat and pure C-F, so discoloration will not be an issue.

I suggest you e-mail him, directly, with any/all questions.

update

I just called Thoams Queen; in a nutshell, he is PSYCHED to help out with ANY projects involving carbon-fiber. That's his whole raison d'etre!

Other options currently on the market are ALL the same volume (cubic inches) - just different materials/prices.
Up until now, RENNtech hasn't had any carbon-fiber competition, hence their almost $1000 price-tag.

YOU be the judge; wait until you see my results and then decide if you want one. I am thinking you DEFINITELY WILL...

Less money for a better product... sounds like a no-brainer to me!

; )

Thomas is one of the coolest, most ethical individuals I have worked with in YEARS.
Decide for yourself: I am certain you will agree...

Maybe one of our Va members like Mark K or Jim K can check out the deal and place in person (?). Thanx for the contact...I'll call him up for the answers to my questions.
