M119 CHANGE 4.2 to 5.0

Hello Brothers and Sisters of the Benz,

Does anyone know what the differences are between the two engines, and could a 4.2 be changed to accomidate the bigger displacement? Thank all of you for the knowledge. This web site has given me wealths of informantion, what and experience. I appreciate your time.

Why dont you just put in a lower geared rear end because that would be a lot cheaper than trying to make a 5.0 L engine, but if you are willing and wanting to do that, you should make the car an E60 www.renntechmercedes.com

If you are trying to achieve quickness, then a lower rear end would be the best. Look up SUBMAN he will have a lot to say.

We have a 2.82 gear ratio for your car (as opposed to the factory 2.24 ratio). We can optimize this for your car.

Satish,

Do you offer any other ratios for the 400E than the 2.82? Im thinking something in the low 3's.

You could probably use a 3.07 or a 3.27 one of those came in the 320SL SL320, and the other is in the E320 cabriolet but it depends if you have ASR or not.

I was thinking, wouldn't It cost cheeper to just toss in a E55 engine in the 400E than to go with the Renntech? I wanted to know bc I was thinking of doing this in my car, then I would go towards a blower for my car rather than looking for someone to custom make it for the M119's which would probably end up costing the same as the engine swap!

E55 engine...

Wouldn't you need the transmission and probably the differential as well?

EXTREME E500 10-26-2002 03:13 PM

Yup....I would........I am trying to figure out what I would have to go through to get a "55" engine to work on my car...Its pritty hard since I don't know $hit abth performance & mechanical:confused: Oh well...

You would need the ENTIRE longblock, transmission, wiring harness, all computers, CAN bus units, Motronic engine management brain, fuel injection system, transmission control unit, ESP brain control, exhaust, etc., etc.

It would cost you around $30,000 in just parts alone minimum, another $10-$15 in labor.

Cheaper to just BUY an E55 from 1999. OR, up your current M119 5.0L to 6.0L for $18K or so from RENNtech. That gets you 408hp and 445 ft/lbs of torque plus a new motor in your car.

EXTREME E500 10-28-2002 05:36 PM

WoW....Thats a lot of $hit:( but renntech want like 32k or so to do a 6.0 convertion..... I guess I'll just start saving money up now untill I have enough for a custom Blower;)

Thanks,
