Unhappy EBC pad fitment problems

Yesterday was changing my front pads from XX brand and trying the EBC Reds as most recommend. I have the DP3927 which are the pads to fit a 400E. Well the outside pad fits fine but the back pad would not slide into the caliper. Thought this to be strange and thought maybe one pad was too long compared to what I removed. Well it was .007" too long but there was a small rise in the caliper on the rear face that the pad was touching.

Luckily I have a milling machine so I took a cut from the top and bottom (shortside) of the pad .040" deep and about .200" down
and the pad slipped right in. I' m using the 25mm. ATE nuclear and cryoed rotors and wondered if anyone else has run across this scenario. In the future if I take spare EBC pads to an event with me, I'll be sure to machine two of them first!

That is just plain strange! I've burned thru 2 or 3 sets of those pads, and never had a problem. Do OE pads fit? And are the EBC backing plates longer/larger than the OE ones?

Sounds like you're going to too much trouble for a 2 minute job, eh? Are you using those pads on the street or track BTW??

These are in the 190/5.6 for track only now. I bought the 400E ATE calipers used and they came with a used set of OE pads in them. I threw those out and have had Pagid pads and brand X, now the EBC pads which wouldn't go in. Taking a little cut is no problem as I cut most everything either in the mill, bandsaw or chopsaw. What is perplexing is, why? Once set up in the mill, never have to change settings, just cut away in a few minutes.
The pads were .007" longer and didn't check height as no problem there.
Where the pad touches the guide in the top and bottom of the caliper was OK, it was just too much thickness in the metal backing of the pad interfereing with a boss protruding to the front. Far easier to cut the pad than removing and taking the caliper apart to machine it!

Those calipers are the same as on early 500Es; they used to be on my car until I switched to the bigger binders last year. I think the caliper might be your problem, since you've had to machine each set of pads you've fitted? Real strange

I wasn't clear...!

Michael,
Sorry if I wasn't too clear....the only pads with a fitment problem are the EBCs....all others fit OK. And not the outer pad, just the inners:
The kickout is small but interferes!
