Question More info needed-- EVO II wheels on 1994 E420

I've searched through the archives and it looks like 17" EVO II wheels will fit on the 1994 E420, can anyone confirm or deny this?

What kind of tires will I need to buy so that there is no rubbing at all?

The local MB dealer is selling four new rims for $1360, I couldn't find them on Tirerack and Bekkers is a little more expensive especially with the extra cost of shipping . Does anyone know if there are any cheaper prices than this?

I don't know much about fitting rims to cars so is there anything else I should know before I buy the rims, what are spacers, fender rolls and offset, will I need to make any modifications to the car like rolling the fenders e.t.c.

I'm expecting a harsher, stiffer ride, is there anything else I need to worry about?

Thanks for any help or advice you can give.

Not sure which EvoIIs you are talking about...the 7.5" or 8.25" wide ones? E-mail me if you want a used set in the 8.25" width. I could also get you in a new set for $1250 too in that same size with the polished face. They need special lugs too...like $20 per rim.

I didn't notice a change in ride quality from 16s to 17s...in fact I thought it was better with the 17s but I should attribute that to the new rubber I also put on.

Thanks for your post Jim,

I was told the 8.25 rims would not fit "flush" on my E420 by several mercedes shop members. I was told they would stick out.

I am interested in the 7.5 rims, but email me a price on the 8.25 rims anyway.

Hello Cardude,

I never got the pictures either but I did get the answer I wanted, looks like I'll be getting 7.5s whenever I decide to do it.

Since 8.25 won't fit perfectly on the E420, it's safe to assume they won't fit perfectly on a 190E right?

Thanks for the help

Didn't they make the EvoII rim originally for the 201 series car? Or did the 129 SL have them on first?

Jim, my understanding was that they were first available on the 1990 190E EVO II, next on the 500SL Special Edition and finally on the 1994 E500 Limited. The EVO II tire size was 245/40ZR17, so the rims would have to be the same 17x8.25 as the V8 cars.
