plastic fenders
Anybody know how many E500īs were built with plastic front fenders? My car has them - first registered in Germany in Jan -95. I found a report in Chemical News Database (28.2.1994) that MB would use "GE Plasticsī Noryl nylon blend" for the injection moulded panels. They did not say from which date. I have not queried MB yet, all I checked with them was that my car had the plastic stuff as built.
But let me tell you my Feinschmecker friends, there were some anxious moments when I discovered the fender material - after I had bought the car. A rebuilt taxi from Istanbul? Jukka Luoma Berlin |

Hmmm...this is the first I've heard of such a thing. I wonder if they're factory parts?? Do the fenders seem to be made of the same material as the lower body cladding? How did you come to discover that they're plastic? Did you check the rest of the body panels with a magnet?
Sorry for so many questions, but this is interesting stuff....

I have sent questions to MB Classic about how many E500īs were made with these fenders and why. MB has confirmed by phone my car left the works with them. They fit perfectly. I noticed them by tapping, just by chance, as I saw no reason to use a magnet. I do hope DaimlerChrysler has enough interest in their real heritage to check their computer files.

Although I am not sure if the literature says this (have it, but its in German) but the early 1990's AMG 190E 3.2l have some sort of plastic front fenders also. Found a set for sale, at the time it was news to me.
