500e
I as looking through the local paper before heading out of the country last week and came a crossed a 1993 500E w/85K miles. The asking price was $13000.00. This appeared to be a good deal considering some of the price posts that I have seen on this site. However, it is a 93 and most of the discussions have been about 91s and 92s. Is there a difference? Should a 1993 be cheaper?
Thanks

The 500E / E500 was only sold from '92-'94.
1992's are different because they put out slightly more horsepower and have a closed deck engine block which allows it to be bored out. 1993 and 1994 have the same HP, but 1994's have the updated hood, grill and Euro style headlights. Any 1992 and 1993 can be updated with the Euro 500E E-code headlights. Most of the 500E / E500 discussion is under the "hot rods" sub-forum.

Thank you for the info. A 500E is my next purchase. I am trying to get an idea on price and make a purchase next year.

I would do an visual inspection on the car ASAP and arrange for a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) at a dealer ASAP as well, if you are ready to buy.
If the car is in good shape, you may have found the bargain of the year! You never know, some people just don't know what they are selling. Good Luck |

That's a real nice price...if it checks out OK. Check for an accident and pull a dealer VMI. Spend much time on research...it'll pay off.

Yeah that sounds just like the car I was going to buy.
89k mi. silver 500E (93) - $24k. I didn't buy it because it had more rust than my 20yr old 300CD underneath it (mine has always been a NE car too). It also has some rust starting to form on the body. The transmission shifted a little hard (fluid was brown in color) and the brake fluid was overfilled and black in color. Those things alone were enough to put me off... Good luck with you car... if I was you.. I'd.... go to a dealer, pull a VMI, pull a Carfax take those to your mechanic and have him look at the car for body repairs and the car itself mechanically! hope it's a nice one!!! I envy you
