Talking Professional Praise for 500E

Well, the truth will out. This is what Prof. Dr. Dr. Juergen Hubbert told the German magazine Motor Klassik when asked which car in the Mercedes history fascinates him. "That will be the 500E - a unique car, sweet and brutal at the same time." Hubbert has been the board member responsible for Mercedes cars since 1990 and, accoding to the German rag, drives well.

Dean,
the story is on the 280SL Hubbert always wanted and finally got on his 60th birthday. Very little on other models, and the 500E comes up just for a grand finish. Just a moment, IŽll get the mag. The final paragraph goes:
"Hubbert always thinks four to five years ahead. It is always the next model generation which fascinates him most. The Mercedes tradition works as the necessary counterweight, and he does not lose sight of it. At the wheel of the Pagoda he becomes lively. Is there another car in the history of the Star that fascinates him? The answer comes quick and peremptory. "That will be the 500E - a unique car, sweet and brutal (sanft und brutal) at the same time.""
It is a two-page spread by the Motor Klassik senior writer Alf Cremers, whose stuff I find very good. Motor Klassik is much less an ad supplement to the car trade than the British magazines, and you encounter some very unfamiliar makes there. - I am not connected with the paper in any way except as a reader.

NOOOO...

I can't decide... should I get a 500E or keep my diesel.. I know I know two completely different beats. However the diesel has become attached to me....

But driving the 500E I could see why it is soo appealing. Sweet and Brutal it is!!! It's so easy to drive smooth in traffic yet when you need the power it behaves like a V-8 powered sedan should.

Herr Holson

What not keep your trusty diesel and get the 500E as your 'sunny weather' driver?

How much cash could you get for the ole fella anyway? Its not too late to ask Santa...
