your MPG on C-280 (or other 202) ???

i have reposted this inquiry here as i only got 3 replies on the Tech forum. any info is GREATLY appreciated. thanks, - benton

i would like to get others input on their MPG experience on W202 cars, especially C-280's with either 4 or 5 speed autobox.

i just replaced my 300e with a 95 C-280 W202, and got just under 24 MPG driving about 700 hwy miles at high speeds (~85-95 MPH) without the AC while bringing the car home.

that seems a little low to me. i burned minimum 92 OCT gas, the air filter is a clean mann, and i will change fuel filter asap also. i also ran a bottle of Techron thru while returning 300 miles from x-mas with virtually the same MPG.

what MPG do you get? city? hwy? AC? what hwy speeds? etc.

am i too optimistic about getting the 26-27 MPG i've read about without dropping the hwy speeds down to 55 MPH?

any and all input will be GREATLY appreciated! thanks, - benton

i received these 3 responses at: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/53736-your-mpg-input-w202-4-5-speeds.html

97 C280 sport = 28 MPG on hwy. that sounds dead on.
97 C230 = 35 MPG on hwy. i dont know no nothing about no c230, but that sounds great!
96 C280 = ~15 MPG combined. sounds awfully low to me.

i do plan to burn another bottle of techron thru and retest at a lower consistant speed in hopes of better MPG. my old 86 300e got around 25 MPG on the hwy, even if at the higher speeds of 80 to 90 MPH average.

Sounds about right to me. I get 24mpg mixed driving. Traveling at higher speeds is gonna flush your mpg down the toilet!

i get about 24mpg mixed driving also.... I did get 30+mpg on a long highway trip.

I get 300 miles a tank city and 400 miles a tank highway in my '96 C280.Right around 27.I have put around 30k on her.I had misfire problems and I changed the plugs and the resistors on the plug wire ends. The difference was amazing for 100$ in parts and a couple hours under the hood.Only use F8DC4 plugs on this engine.I drive ten over on the highway, usually around 80mph.I just recently ran some Techron through and it smoothed the hell out out of the acceleration and driveability, but no real difference in my mileage.

My 1994 C280 (auto) gets about 19 mixed and about 22 highway.

I have 105k miles on it but it has done this since I got it when it only had 41k miles. Runs great. Changed Air Flow meter, EA, plugs, wires, and connectors, etc -- not discernable difference in gas mileage.

Seems low to me from what I read and hear.

in my c36 AMG i get abt 14mpg mixed with spirited driving

my 1992 w124 m103 300E in stock form (no turbo) does 21mpg on the highway at 90 to 100 mph speeds

26mpg at constant 55mph-60mph
and abt 16 to 18 mpg mixed driving spirited

in turbo never saw better than 15mpg (very easy driving no t boosting) and avged 8 to 9mpg when doing sprited driving

for what its worth i get 21-22 hwy in my 210 with a m104 5 speed auto cruise set on 100mph about 17-18 on town

EuroRash 10-19-2009 02:27 PM

96 C280 running K&N cone and Lorinser exhaust M104 722.4
25 city 28 hwy (when I drive 65mph max)

00 E320 4M (sister's ride) 722.6 manumatic/tiptronic
it's funny she seems to get better gas mileage,
but she drives sanely and isn't an occasional lead foot like I am

I regularly get 24-25 MPG highway with my '97 C36 (completely stock) with Temp-O-Mat set at 74-79 MPH, but only about 18-20 when burning rubber and kicking ass in the city. I run 92-93 octane premium fuel exclusively, but no additives or other snake oil crap.

sranjesuper 11-19-2009 01:52 PM

i get about 23-24 mpg in a 190e 2.6
