I love it. "We don't know how many owners the car has had - it could have been a one owner car". As if a dealer doesn't carfax their pruchases. Given that lie, I would not believe anything else they say.
God, the used car biz is so sleazy.

500e on eBay

I hate that silly aftermarket stereo system that was put in there. THAT alone kills the value of a car of that magnitude. If I bought that car, I'd HAVE to yank all that crap out and start over. Purple stereo in a 500e- YUK!! I see this type of stuff on eBay all the time. I myself wouldn't think about buying a car just by its pics on eBay. I'd have to see it for myself. I smell a snake in the wood pile on that car.

This is the same exact car that I went and visited last Friday, posting here about it in reply to someone else's post that they saw it in the paper.

You can see the weird anodized trim on the exterior that I was talking about. And the Lorinser wheels, and the tinting, and the hip-hop stereo.

Looking over it quickly as I did last Friday, the interior was decent. Exterior was decent but it was obvious that the P.O.(s) had their own distinct sense of "style" that would have to be "eradicated" in order to make the car palatable.

They wanted $23-24K for this car (asking price). Personally I wouldn't pay $20K for it. The two guys who own the lot where it is at deal in used Benz and BMWs mainly (they take a lot of the trade-ins that the local Portland MB and BMW dealers wholesale out -- basically the cars that don't make the StarMark cut). They seemed nice enough, but I probably wouldn't buy a car there. If you live in Portland, they're at 22nd & Burnside.

I'd give them $18K tops for this car.

Cheers,
Gerry

Actually, having a different stereo in there, purple or otherwise, doesn't bother me at all. I don't think it affects the value at all, either. The original stereo's suck anyway, so regardless of what is in the car, I'd still replace it.

I actually like the Lorinser wheels, too. They are expensive, of high quality, from a respected Mercedes tuner, and are better than the original 8 hole wheels.

I would never buy a car sight unseen and with this mileage, dealer maintained or otherwise, the car would have to go undergo an very thorough PPI before I would buy it.

the car actually LOOKS ok, though it's tougher to tell with black cars in photos.

the "weird anodized trim" is normal. it's called black chrome and ALL 500Es had them. I know later W201s had black chrome trim because it looked nicer than the original trim which had a habit of fading to a very light grey (look at almost every 2.3-16).

I personally think the rims are butt f-in' ugly and would change them right away. i think chrome rims on a benz take away from the car. makes it look cheap and tawdry. but that's just me

UGLY rims

That was one of the first things I noticed about that car. I know the Lorinser wheels are supposed to be nice and all, but they just look cheap on that car, and the style is too dated. ANyhoo, I am wondering what else lurks among the sheetmatal- I am suprised by the interior- it's remarkably clean!!! THAT is a plus!!

Just by looking at the pictures, the car seems to be in better than average condition for the year and the mileage, and the price at around $20K seems about right to me if the car checks out as o.k.
