Altima Vs. 190e

I just recently got a 1988 Mercedes 190e 2.3, and so as I was looking up 0-60 times, I was surprised to consistantly see low 7's. So naturally, I started bragging about it, but now as I read the posts on this site, I think that applies only to the 16v(I'm pretty sure mine is a 8v, it doesn't say "16v" on the back like the others I have seen). But so I was all ready to race this guy who drives a completely stock '96 Nissian Altima GXE, and still plan to do so. But now I am not so sure that I will beat him, because I think mine is a 8v. Considering both cars are automatics, who will win this race? Thanks-Jesse:

i'd like to know who was able to get consistently low 7 sec. 1/4 mi. times out of an 8 valve.

16v's are about a 7.8 sec car, so an 8v in the low 7s is no small feat

STOMP the Altima

Better go invest in a Sneaky Pete Nitrous System. that should give you a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds.

You should invest in another type of Merc if you are trying to race off the line.

Well thought you guys would like to know that i beat him, i was power breaking and he peeled out, and i beat him. He wants to race again tomorrow because he said that it was unfair. It was a hella close race though, i admit his car is a bit faster, but due to my start, i was able to beat him. thanks for your input guys-Jesse

Thumbs up Nice Going!

Many races have been won with cars that were not the top dog in numbers. I agree that the Altima is probably quicker for a drag race, but the more talented driver (you) won the day!

Nice going!

Rematch? Would he have given the same grace to you?

Regards,
- Ryan

Wow, you beat him! Awesome. I guess I can race my roommates honda accord that he puts way to much pride in, and not have to worry about him laughing at my beat up merc. I got an 8v, but I have a manual tranny that might put more power to the ground

well the only reason we would race agian is because he says that he really won, cuz he says that he was peeling out on sand and thats the only reason i finished ahead of him. both cars were very evenly matched, his car is a tiny smidge faster than mine, he was gaining on me bit by bit, but yeah i still beat him. but hes going around doggin on my baby benz! so, i was looking for a cheap edge to beat him with for the rematch, and i found this octane boosting NOS stuff, that supposedly "restores lost horsepower", because it raises the octane level by four(i ONLY put the highest octane gas availible in my merc in the first place, which is 91 here, so 91+4=95 octane). but anyway i added it to a full tank of gas, and i was wondering if this indeed will give me that edge i need to beat him, or will i look like a fool and prove him right. has anyone used this stuff? results? much appreciated input guys, very much appreciated!-Jesse

so he claims there was sand, and that your car wasn't on any sand in on the same street?

Sounds to me like the better driver won the race.

I've won a few races in my days, with cars that should not have won, all because I was the better driver.

I once beat a honda accord with a 1980 MGB with a 1.8 liter 4 cylynder with less than 100hp!!!!

how did I do it? Better driving plain and simple.

That octane booster may not do much if anything at all. If you really want an edge, do as speedtek suggested.

Alon

Octane Edge?

Not likely, unless your engine is designed to run on high octane fuel, ie; high compression, you would receive no boost in power. higher octane fuel actually resists combustion, which is what makes it better in high compression situations. It'll keep the engine from "dieseling."

I know that the later V-8 126 and 124 gas engined bodies require high octane. I've never dealt with the 201's before.

the octane boost and high octane "restores lost power" is a marketing gimick.

What you did is utilize the laws of physics. When the flag dropped, and both cars accelerated, weight transferred to the rear of both vehicles, loading your drive axle and lightening his. that's why, except for the rice draggers, the big powered vehicles are RWD.

Good luck on the next go-round and whip his rice-burnin' butt again.

wow alon, i REALLY would have liked to see that mgb 4 cylinder beat the accord! but yeah anyway i am looking up sneaky pete nitrous systems as suggested and i found one in my price range, and i was just wondering about saftey and all that hoopla, because i know next to nothing about nitrous systems. i mean i have seen the crazy videos where NOS blows up cars and all that stuff, but like is it safe to use, even on a 14-year old car? i would definetly purchase it, i just want to insure the safety of it. but man i would love to see the look on the faces of those watching when i blow past him in my "old-a$$ mercedes"! but about the sand-i know that there are sometimes pits of sand on that street, but its his fault for placing his car there! thanks-Jesse
