O.K. new idea, try this one...
I tried to diagram out each of your tests and think maybe this might work, so if you would give this a try:
1. Wire from supply (+) to pin 2 2. Pin 3 to relay (+) 3. Ground (supply (-)) to pin 1 4. Relay (-) to supply (-) This might get it all relay, LED switch, etc, hope this works, good luck!

Sorry for the delayed update, but I've been busy
Plan is to try this newest version of the circuit; if it doesn't work, then I'm simply gonna run power to pin 3 and ground pin 2 - switch works perfectly in this arrangement. However, no light in his configuration, so we'll keep plugging [:-)

Success!
Works like a charm. No illumination of the switch, but I can live without it. And you definitely know when it's engaged-the ASR light comes on in the the instrument cluster, and the snow chain switch light comes on. Oh, and the rear tires melt...
Can't wait to try it out on VIR- anyone going 8/2-3?

Parts list:
1.) Rear dome light on/off switch (from a 500E) 2.) ASR "off" switch (W140 S500) 3.) 6 wire bundle - approx 4' of cabling (I used a cable intended for trailer lights - purchased at JC Whitney; I have enough for 3-4 more switches) - this runs out the side of the CAN box (I drilled a hole, then RTV'd it to seal it once the wires were all connected) 4.) 2 wire bundle - for power & ground to the circuit - I grabbed power from the lighter circuit, and ground was connected to that same circuit) 5.) 3 pole relay & socket - I used a 4 pole, and simply ignored one of them; it's installed in the area behind the passenger-side airbag, accessed from below 6.) Butt connectors - used to cut into the factory harness, inside the CAN box 7.) 3 amp fuses & holders (I fused both power & ground, just for giggles) As to where one would locate the switch, in order to put it up above the HVAC controls as you suggest, Guido, then I'd think additionally you'll need to purchase the socket that the light switch would normally plug into, as that is what will hold the switch in place. In my case, the switch simply snapped into place as the fader switch did...there are small plastic spring clips that are part of the console wood piece. Good luck, and if anyone wants me to pull this all together as a package, let me know (since I already own some of the extra parts, especially the cabling which was not cheap)

Still some C36'ers out there...
Michael, I'm glad to hear your switch is working well, too bad about the LED though. I wanted to put my question out there again as far as newer models go (C36's) the 3 pins/circuts that are being switched do not match up with the pin/circut numbers for the C36 ASR module. Does anyone know for sure what the 3 pins on the E500 ASR module do? Anyone??? I'd like to cross reference the E500 system to the C36 system and build my own defeat switch.
So my question, or challenge if you like, would be for someone to find out the true purpose/name/label of the 3 circuts used on the E500's. I sure someone out there can find out what exactly the pins are labeled and used for!! If some could find out what they are I'd gladly owe you a beer, or several! Thanks again... - NL

I don't have the part numbers handy, and the folks at the local dealership aren't fond of giving out P/Ns without their purchase. Guido, you work at a dealership, can you hit up your parts dept for the numbers?
Thanks in advance
