Michael, I was one of your early purchasers. I have not installed the switch yet, however, and I have managed to lose whatever instructions you had included.

Can you email them to me?

Rgds,

The N30 box (ASR/ABS) and the N4/1 box (electronic accelerator)
Because M103/M104 has a electronic accelerator they have an actuator to adjust the throttle, and to cut throttle when ASR kicks in.

I have a theory when it comes to ASR defeat on the 6 cyl. and I want your oppinion:

The N30 and N4/1 box communicates over 2 wires.
On the N4/1 box the pins used to this are 31 and 34.

31: To ABS/ASR control unit - Throttle valve actual value
34: From ABS/ASR control unit - throttle valve setpoint.

If I connect these over a switch, I believe ASR would be switched off.
And the ABS and Tempomat should still work!?

According to what I've read in WIS there is no storage of fault messages in the ASR 2 systems.

And it works! Been testet out now, and my family-wagon has become more a driving machine than before! Mighty fun! To bad all the snow and ice has gone!

More kits available

Back by popular demand, I have once again gathered all the goodies to make another run of kits. I have the parts for 5 more kits, first come first served. Price is $250, which includes shipping via USPS Priority Mail within the U.S. If you are outside the U.S., the cost is $240 U.S. + actual shipping cost.

I've been getting a lot of PMs lately about my pics of the RENNTech ASR Defeat switch. Apparently, Imagestation does not allow outside linking anymore.

Anyway, here they are again.

Pics of the RENNTech kit:

Pics of the installation instructions (color codes and/or numbers may not match. Make sure you know what you are doing):

Here's a diagram I made on how it all comes together:

Haven't had any time fixing it. Maybe over the weekend. Are you in Manila? Makati?

Metro Manila... Live in Wack Wack, work in Makati.

But I'm heading back to NY next Friday and will be there until September or so. Going back to work at Thomas Keller's NY restaurant, Per Se, for a bit...

I'm originally from Makati (Legazpi Village). Went to CSA in Dasma. Moved here in 79 for school. Is Wack Wack still a good golf course to play at - last time I was there we only played at The Country and at Canlubang.

Talk to you later,
Jay

It's still one of the better golf courses. And it helps that it's right smack in the middle of the city. A fire burned down the original clubhouse a 3 or 4 years ago. I was way overdue for a renovation anyway. (Timing's a bit suspicous!) It's brand spanking new now. One of the holes, I forget which, is just a block away from the house...

Per Se - never been to that restaurant. Is it similar to Charles of Nob Hill - meal in courses...sounds like fun. What do you do there?

After searching this site for about 2 weeks trying to figure out why it costs almost $1000 to get this damn ASR off in my car I ran into a post that showed a diagram of the ASR defeat system and the way it works. I also found complete instructions for installing the ASR defeat made by RENNtech and had a friend of mine take a look at it. After just a minute of looking at it my friend says "this is a piece of cake, how much did you say this costs?" 20 minutes later he tells me to take it for a spin and see if the wheels are spinning, and guess what, those tires were burning like no other benz ever burned. What you need to do first is find the installation instruction posted somewhere on this site, I cant find them again for some reason. Now, find the box located near the firewall on the driver's side being help by 4 allen screws, remove the the complete box, find the computer named ASR and remember what slot in went in to. If you look at the instructions it will give you colors of the wires and numbers, all my friend did was disconnect those 3 wires. This will completely turn off the ASR the car will burn rubber like you wont believe. Please excuse my limited knowledge of the process. My friend now made for my car a box with 3 modules or relays ( i dont remember which ones he said but I will ask him and post again) located inside, he will connect a switch to the box with modules or relays and I will be able to tur the ASR system on and off. I was gonna buy an original W140 ASR switch and put it on the panel next to the snow chain switch but I figured having it mounted under the steering column would give me an advantage of having it off when I give to my wife to drive and not having her mess around with too much power for her to handle. I have been driving the car for about 5 days now and can tell you that this has completely changed my views of te 500E, it is simply a 4 door porsche, amazing performance, a sedan like no other etc. I have read posts regarding the ASR defeat is kinda like keeping the snow tire chain system engaged for higher speeds, NOT TRUE, the wheels are still being kept from spinning. The ASR light has been on since this was done but I'm sure it will turn off after my on/off switch is switched to off. Let me know if you have any further question and I will try to answer them the best I can or I will ask my friend and get the right answers for you. ANYWAY SORRY FOR THE LONG POST BUT IT SURE BEATS PAYING ALMOST $1000 FOR SOMETHING SO SIMPLE.
Hi,i had a 1994 S600 and had a problem with ASR also, want to know if how can i switch it off permanently.had to switch off ignition switch everytime it malfunctions and limit the engine to 2000rpm only, after switching off the ignition,it restores it's power again. Thanks in advance

I have a 1993 500SL with the asr going on and putting the car in limp mode when it is really hot outside and the AC is on full blast.

I'm in South Florida (West Palm Beach area.) Anyone know of a place down here with the knowledge to disable the ASR. I'm very mechanically uninclined.

Thanks,
Steven
