E55 vs M5 Depreciation

Hi,
Has anyone noticed how relatively cheaply one can now get a 2000 E55 under factory warranty? On Ebay, one sold yesterday with 7k miles for $44K.
One would be lucky to procure an M5 for anything much less than $60K.
This makes the 55 a bargain for the used 4dr lux performance buyer!
Incidentally, I spent some time in an E55 on the weekend. Compared to my 94 E500, engine noise especially at 2500rpm onwards, is far more intrusive! The car was MB starmarked, 2000, w/ 17k miles. In fact the motor noise was positively annoying compared to the 500E. I am just wondering if this was an anomaly, or whether MB has just overcooked the exhaust to increase the 'performance image'.
Any thoughts, comments???
Farrukh

I'm curious, what else did you like/dislike in comparison to the 500E?

I'm going to do a search on production numbers for the E55 and the M5 to see if this may be the cause for the major drop in price.

well there is the less than stellar grade of materials used in the interior of the 210 car. but this is well documented.
otherwise, the 55 is a standup car!
oh, and i found it to be tangibly quicker off the line than my 500, which only has 57k miles. the 55 has big nuts - no questions in my mind.
also, my 500 has good ol' environmentally unfriendly enamel based paint. In 040 black, there is no comparison with the newer water based stuff.
The 55 is larger inside and has a full backseat. Useful as a family-mobile.
So all in all, some pros, some cons and for me at least, no conclusions...:-)

Once the E55 Kompressor hits the resale market, the "old" E55 should go down in price even more...but would you be satisfied with it?

well now Dean, given your own W124-036 expertise, perhaps I may take the liberty of turning the tables and ask what you think of the E55 by comparison???
I suspect I would be satisfied with a 55 as a daily driver. One wouldnt need to care about it as much as I do about my 500. The 55 is just nowhere nearly as bespoke IMHO.

I see a supercharged E55 in my future...in about four/five years!
