Hello! I had a look at the S55 AMG, beautiful thing. Is it possible to test drive one and add it to your "Featured Cars". I want to know more about from your (the pros) point of view

If we can find one, we certainly won't turn down the opportunity to drive it!

As far as I've heard and read the W220 S55 AMG is only in concept form. Are you talking about the E55? We have covered one of those briefly in the "Customer On-Track" article. More in depth reviews of the cars we drove at On-Track are forthcoming.

The S55 is out. I read it in "Mercedes-Magazine for People on the Go". They had a picture of the S55. The engine is a standard S-Klasse with a 5-litre unit from whose displacement have been increased to 5,439 cc. The V8 developes an output of 265kW (360hp) with an impressive torgue of 530Nm at 3,250 rpm. Acceleration from 0-100km is 6 seconds.

There's also a new CLK55 AMG powered by a modified V8 developing 255kM (347hp) and 0-100km is 5.4 seconds. Looks just like the CLK430, but is has a lowered suspension (around 25mm shorter). Looks quite beautiful

To Choo Chung Chieh:
I am guessing that you are posting from a country outside of the United States? I am also guessing that your particular Mercedes is also one that is not sold in the U.S. Am I correct? Your posts using 0-100km, Nm and kW are a giveaway! There are many models and various engines of Mercedes cars that are not sold in the U.S. and this site, although very helpful will not be able to respond to questions concerning models not available to U.S. customers. Currently, the S55 AMG is not intended for sale in the United States therefore MercedesShop may never be able to feature one. If you can see and buy cars such as the S55 and CLK55 in your country you are one lucky person/country! We here in the U.S. with the largest Mercedes-Benz market on earth can only dream about such cars. The U.S. gets a very limited selection of Mercedes cars. Case in Point - E-Class cars are available with about 10 different engines, four trim levels and manual transmissions in many countries and the U.S. only gets 4 different engines, one trim level and one automatic tranny. Go Figure? We envy you! |

Actually, North America was told that E50 AMG will NOT come by any chance. Guess what?? E55 is available right now, right here in Canada/US. So, S55's existence in North America is still possible. Come on, BMW is offering their customers with 540i/740i Sport. There is a trend that Larger Luxury Car buyers will want some sportiness, too. So, I think Mercedes-Benz will soon follow. Why let BMW has all the fun???

Dear Kevin,
Actually, here in Malaysia, there are very limited Mercedes models. The A-Klasse is only available in Elegance Trim, the E-Klasse (CKD) in Elegance trim and the C-Klasse (CKD) in Classic and Elegance. The CLK, SLK, SL, G, ML and V are not even available here. What most people in my city do is import them from Japan, US and UK. Majority of the E-Klasses here are Avantgardes, and the sole A-Klasse in my city is also an Avangarde, and seeing CKD's are rare. There's only one V-Klasse Ambient (imported from Germany). I ordered my 1995 W124 E220 from Japan because if I were to get it from the local dealer, it'll only be available as a CKD model, which are terrible in terms of reliability and build quality From what I know, the present E and C for the Japanese market are available in only one trim. If you do come to Kuching, Sarawak (Borneo Island), you'll see that 90% of the C-Klasses here are imported from Japan, US and UK; and only a limited number of CKD's BTW, AMG's aren't even offered here from the dealer (they don't even know that systems like Parktonic or Distronic even exists until this year), we have to go through third party dealers to import one And the roads here are infested with CLK's, SLK's, SL's, E's, C's, and tons and tons of S-Klasses (W140)(all imported through third party dealers). I guess the local dealer isn't making much profit and they suspended local assembly of the Benz's last year, though resumed early this year If you have the oportunity to import one, go ahead, that's what we in Kuching do Regards, Chung 1995 Yanase Azure Blue E220 |

To AKRY:
Sorry my friend, but the E50 is not the same car as the E55. Europe and other countries enjoyed the E50 for 2 to 3 years prior to the stateside E55. You are right we were told the the E50 would not come to North America and it never made it. The E55 is not the E50! Just like the C36 is not the C43. You may be misinformed because BMW 540i/740i Sport models are not M5/M7 cars. BMW Motorsport "M" prepared cars are equivalent to AMG prepared cars. BMW Sport cars are not "tuner" cars and do not have "tuner" engines/exhaust/chips or added performance. Usually "sport" modesl include visual upgrades like ground packages and sportier wheels. You can only dream about an S55 or any future equivalent. It will probably never make to these shores! Here is another crazy tid-bit: The new W220 S-Class is only avaiblable in North America as S430, S500 and soon the S600. However, other smaller countries also get S320 short, S320 long, S430 short and S500 short wheelbase cars in addition to the S55. We have limited choice in the world largest MBZ market! Go Figure? Take care AKRY! |

To my Friend Choo Chung Chieh:
You ever been to the U.S.? I would love to visit Malaysia one day! I am amazed that some Mercedes cars are assembled there. I live in Washington, DC. No A-Class, V-Class or G-Class are sold in the U.S. The U.S. market does not have differenet trim levels such as, Classic, Elegance, Ambient or Avantgarde!. All U.S. models come with trim matching the Elegance line. I have a 1998 E420 and wish it had Avantgarde trim, parts and specifications. The E-Class is only available in the following model: E300D E320 & E320 Wagon E320 4-Matic & 4-Matic Wagon E430 & E430 Sport E55 AMG. The C-Class is available in: C230K & C230 Sport C280 & C280 Sport C43 AMG No wagons for the C-Class in the U.S. The E430 Sport adds upgraded 17 inch wheels & tires, AMG E55 aerodynamic lower Bodywork, projector beam foglights and and sport shift knob, with no upgrade to the engine, chip, exhaust, tranny, brakes or suspension. The C-Class Sport does give a performance suspension with it's upgraded wheels but the C43 bodywork is not added. Take car Choo! |

Here in Canada we also have the C-Class in classic trim, as well as the SWB S430. I agree that it's no fair we dont get the fun stuff like the C55, SL60 or G-wagen. I understand that in Europe they also have an AMG tuned G-wagen.
