Kevin,

I live 15 minutes from there and we have purchased several cars from them over the years...I wonder if they'll let me take it for a spin? I just might not come back

They're actually pretty liberal with returning customers...last summer they let me keep a 94 E420 over night to evaluate, and even the 420's power seems brutal by comparison to my 300E's. I can only imagine the 500...

Went by ASC today...the 500E was being serviced, so i couldn't take the beast for a spin

Kevin, did you get your E430 from ASC? Just wondering, I'd love to see pics of your car with the carlssons.

later!

FlipSyde, yes I purchased from ASC. Sorry, I have no internet ready photos. On Sunday (02/06/2000) a D.C. pothole took out one of my Pirelli P7000 SuperSports mounted on the Carlsson's. I hope the wheel is not bent. I like the look of chrome especially on black cars however the road salt has ruined them. In this area you may need to re-chrome every year to 18 months or dont ride them in the winter months. Did not like the P7000's either, quick wearing, no grip and too much noise.

Chris,
The 500E is farther beyond the E420 than the E420 is beyond the M103 300E. Especially in cold weather...

They are quick off the line but their true grace shows on kickdown. Especially from 80+mph on up to the end of the tach and speedo. (at that point it becomes more power/aero drag vs power/weight at lower speeds) Some 17" tires (245/45/17 works great) are probably your best single mod. (without staggered setup or anything really big dollar)

If/when you do get some time in one try punching the gas at about 20mph, 50mph, or 80mph...it will not dissappoint. You might also want to pick a day when it is nice and dry or you will get to see the ASR light more than anything else. Beware though, once driven those cars are known to be more than a touch addictive.

Hope this helps...Lee

Kevin,

Sorry to hear about your tire

I took my 17" Chrome AMG monoblocks off of my 300E last week and put some replica 8 holes with blizzaks in 15" on there. Looks like there won't be anymore snow (knock on wood) but I've managed to save my chrome from the majority of the nasty melting snow/ salty water mixture that's all over the roads now. I just saw something I almost couldn't believe, this old guy in a 140 S600 coupe in line at the AUTOMATED car wash...heh I almost volunteered to wash it for him, but oh well, I guess some people see 'em as just cars!

As far as the E430, my dad has a 99 in silver (I kicked and screamed for the sport package and xenons but he opted for the GPS system) and I'm very impressed with the power. Maybe it's better off that I didn't get to push the 500E, VA state troopers might have had an APB out on me

Hope your wheel situation works out Kevin, and good luck out there in the elements...

also if you want to do a photo shoot of your car in the spring I'd be more than happy to snap some pics for you with my digital cam I suppose our cars are similar in appearance, all black with + sized chrome wheel setups...might look good together!

Later guys...
