I've been waiting 6 weeks for this to happen.
I was hoping that the E55 would take the place of my ZR-1 as far as the stoplight races here in NY. (The ZR-1 has been under wraps for a few years-can't drive it due to 3 back surgeries). Well, the other night I pulled up next to a Carrera4 at the light. I looked over at him, but he pretended not to be interested. I shut down the ESP and switched it to "Sport" mode. Light turns green and we both nail it. I'm 1.5 car lenghts ahead at 65MPH, so I cut in front of him so he could read that E55 AMG nameplate up real close. He's either reading up on the E55 or in at the Porsche dealer to have his car serviced.
Yep, those E55 are Quick !!! :D

If you both would've/could've stayed into it then he would not have had such an easy time reading your emblem!!

Perhaps this hints at why I've de-badged my 500E...no one ever knows what hit them :D

BTW Gary...if your back's not up to it, I'd be more than happy to exercise your ZR-1 for you. Just trying to be a helpful fellow Member, dontchaknow (Scheeler, if you read this:Not A Word...). What color is it?

Perhaps we'll see you in the spring!

in keeping with the fellowship that's going on in this post, i humbly volunteer to hand wash both michael and gary's E55 and 500E anytime.

As long as I get to "air dry" them on the local interstate ;)

Great story Gary!

Gary,

Great story! I would have loved to have seen the Porsche driver's reaction after he had been taken at the line.

But, if you are up to it...I have a 1966 AC Cobra that wouldn't mind the challenge...I'd post a pic, but I don't think it would be appropriate on this site.

Thanks for the great tale.

Thanks for all those teriffic offers to drive wash & dry the beast.
Actually, I could use someone to transport it to Pocono Raceway and help do a brake job.
Drive time could be arrainged, but you'd have to have a high speed driving certificate from Skip Barber (or equivalent) :D
I was going to flip a coin to try and decide which car to take to the track, but it looks like I'll take the Z and give my wife some track time in the Benz. The Benz is, after all limited to 155, and life begins at 180! She's really getting into it now....She was afraid to the the Cadicrap STS over 60, now she's wizzin by at 90! At first she was nervous going back to the RWD, now she knows why all the race cars are RWD.
I wouldn't mind running that Cobra either, it's good to eat some dust once in a while :)
Love to see a pic too.

Carrera 4 suxx ;p Last summer while on the motorway in Germany a Carrera 4 showed up in my mirror, I was driving at about 150km/h, I had 3 people in my car and had ~150kg in the trunk (lugages). The guy in the 99' Carrera 4 was alone and was living there. He provoked me... His eyes were certainly not clean and couldn't read 560SEC BRABUS. Anyway, I let him go and put myself behind him, well not gonna tell ya the speeds (220km/h as an average during 30mins!) on accelerations at 200km/h I was still faster than him, he simply couldn't beleive it. At the end he left at a gas station I saw him eating his hat! :) In 30mins half of my gas tank was off ;) But what a real pleasure. I wish there were some more days like this.
