The spare tire on my 2000 E55 is a 17" size 235 but I kind of remember my 1999 one gets a 245 fullsize(same as the front wheel & tire) spare... Could anyone check and let me know?

Thanks!

A while ago a 99 E55 won over a 2000 M5 by more than a car's length in a 1/4 mile drag race infront of more than 100 spectators. Sources has it that the 2 had some issues un sattled since high school so it was an all out burn out. The very next weekend the M5 owner ask for an rematch but it never happened. Too bad for him.

I would think the spare would be a full size version of the front but I don't have the 2000 specs in front of me. I know for a fact that the W202 AMG cars all have full sized front size spare wheel/tires. I'd call your closest dealership and double check but I'd think that if the car were brand new things would be as they should.

Hope this helps...Lee

Just out of curiousity what is the exact size, brand, and model tire on the 17" wheel back there?

the spare in my Y2K E55 is a Continental 235/45R17 Space Saver.
I would think cost is the foremost factor, but weight savings is factored in also.

Thanks guys! My 2000 one has a Michiline 235/45R17. It is just that I sort of remember the 1999 one I had came with a spare identical to the front wheel & tire. So I thought maybe they made a mistake on this one.

Best regards,

Et

The reason the 5th spare tire is different is for the following reasons:

1. The AMG spec'd tires are asymetric and direction. This mean the car has 4 different tires. You'd have to carry 4 spare's to cover this.

2. The front and read tires have different diameters (ranges from 1/4 to 1/2 inch). You'd need 2 spares to cover this.

So AMG/MB went with a non-directional, symetric tire that can be used at any corner. It is a compromise designed only to get you home or to a repair shop.

Thanks Noah, you are right. I went back to my dealer and confirmed that all 2000 model come with 17" spare.

P.S. I also foud out that it will be at least another year before we will see a CLK 55 here in Vancouver. Anyone has any luck getting this bad boy?

Only the spare tire is 17. Aspect ratio is corrected for proper ride height when the spare is in use.
