how to trick speed limiter on 92 400E

Hello. MY 400E storms to 150 then just cuts out. Clear as day. It is definetely not from drag. Cause you can almost feel it stop accel. MY question is, where is the input for the speed limiter computer? I know it could run off the ABS sensors, the rear diff sensors (I have ASR), or off the tranny sensor. I believe the tranny has two outputs for speed. One to the speedo, and one to wherever.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Wouldn't mind having traction control on my 400E. This thing smokes the tires about any time you want and sometimes when you don't want. Love it in my E420.

PJG56,

Try larger rims and tires. I have around 400 hp and 400+ lb/ft of tq in my 560 SEC and I can get pretty good traction from my 275/40/18 Kumho Escta Supra 712's. New rims and tires should do the trick if your still on stock rubber. Heck, if I were running stock rubber, my tires would spin till I hit 100 mph.

My E430 sport feels like an absolute slug compared to my supercharged SEC! I guess it is relative to what your used to drriving.

I too definetely have a traction problem in my 400E. I can never get a 1st gear launch without spinning, especially since I have gotten the 2.82 rear end. I do have traction control and it does help, but I wish the damm thing will just hook up. Im hoping when the weather gets warmer, It will hook up alot better than it does now with these temps. I have 205-55-ZR16 on my car now. Wish they were wider but I'd have to roll the fenders .

Super SEC,
Id KILL for a ride in your car!!! I cant imagine what that must feel like. Kinda ruins it for everything else you drive after that though . A tough act to follow.

amg280,

The car accelerates rather violently if you can imagine. The boost hits 6 psi at a 3000 rpm and builds from there. I recently did some stop watch times from a 5 mph rolling start and I was recording around 5 seconds flat to 60 mph. I feel the car will run sub 5 second 0-60 times but I need to do some more accurate testing to confirm those times.

The secret for the boost is the ATI Procharger P1SC I'm using. The blower is rated to support 825 horsepower and up to 32 psi of boost. The down side of this blower is that it's loud. You can really hear the blower and the sound is very piercing at idle but once it gets moving it is a very nice whine. There are usually no surprises at the stoplight since they can hear the blower.

AMG 280,

I have a 400E as well, I put on 215,55,16s without any rub or problems with clearance. The traction control is kind of like having the fun police on duty all the time, as soon as I get on it, the yellow light comes on.

Where did you get the 2.82 diff? Was it an easy swap? What kind of 0-60 do you get? How much?

georgie,

The swap was very easy! SInce your car has traction control, the diff will be cheaper than one with non-asr. Call around and locate the diff out of a 93 400SEL WITH ASR. Other S class cars use this diff so they can cross reference it. Once you get it, swap the back plates on the two diffs and your good to go. you will have to contact berg works for a black box that makes your speedo accurate again.
