Hi guys,

For u guys who owns AMGs (E55), I would really like to hear ur opinion on this.

I experienced a delate in power output while suddenly accelerate up a long slope(was doing about 50~60km/hr,rev around 1700rpm ) but once the rev reach about 3500 rpm I just hold the gas pedal and it seems like the car was trying to figure what I wanted and the whole transition was abrupt...

Thanks,
Et

ET, a couple of comments:

1. Did ESP kick in? That will explain an abrupt transition in power.
2. If I floor the car not letting go of my foot, I never experience any delay in power.
3. However, if I accelerate hard then let go, and reapply the gas half heartedly, sometimes I can fool the transmission into a quicker than necessary shift.
4. Overall, I find the transmission very intelligent.
5. Can you duplicate your scenario?

I don't know if its the same problem that I had but it sure sounds like it.
I'll reiterate the problem that I had and if you think its the same then take it to the dealer.
I had a problem with both CLK430's in that sometimes there wasn't any real power even when pushing the accelerator down quite a bit. The car would after a couple seconds, all of a sudden lurch into a lower gear (maybe two gears down).
I haven't had it with the E55. So if this is the same problem, take it to the dealer they should be aware of it and have a fix for you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys(Eric & Jesse)

I can duplicate the situation. And it is not like Jesse's situation. I guess what I was not happy about is that the power delivery is not flexible. If I floor it then it is great, it will just punch out power. But if I went for a quick dip in throttle, sometimes it hestitated especially when climbing a slope or passing uneven surface. I feel computer is monitoring every move I make and interprets before action and I don't like it(Althought I am greatful). I have driven 99 model and it was the same.

This is actually my 2nd car and I can't help it by comparing it with my 1st which is an Infiniti J30t. I still drive it a lot because it is flexible therefore enjoyable. The rear wheels will keep spining as long as I don't let go and in driving it responds to any little dip without delate. AMG respond the dip too as long as it thinkd my decision is ok to obey...

Anyways, I complained about this to my service manager Jimmy and the great guy offers to take a look so I will let u guys know what happen.

Best regards,
ET

Whoops, I think I made a mistake. AMG spin wheels too. My main concern is it's response to my quick dip.

I've never experienced this problem, but my wife has a similar problem in 'S'port mode-she has to drive the car in 'W'inter mode. If she hits a bump and her foot come off the gas for a second, then hits the gas again, ESP kicks in with abrupt power loss. Seems that 'S' will give you a sharper shift and more frequent gear changes (more driver input responsive) while 'W' is a softer shift (more computer control). The computer tries to smooth out your driving to maintain control. Try the same situation with ESP off and see what happens....

Hi guys, thanks for all the inputs. My problem has been solved by the dedication of Mercedes services staffs (big thanks to Jimmy & Ed). Althought they didn't find anything wrong by computer diagnosis, they didn't stop there. we went test drive with a laptop hooked on to find out what I meant. It is amazing that a few codes can change a car's behaviour to suite the driver. At the end we both had smile on our face. And I enjoy the car very much now. Luckily I encountered a black M5 on my way home and we enjoied a friendly "dogfight". Afterward I parked next to the guy and gave him a thumb up and he responded with a salute. It was quite fun.

Best regards,
Et
