lower compression on Euro 560

I am seriously thinking about supercharging my Euro 560SEL.

The motor is in excellent shape at 80k miles.

I am considering either intercooling or the possibility of decompressing the engine. The only feasibly method of decompression would have to be in the head and gasket area.

I think either intercooling or decompression and no intercooler will allow me to run up to 10psi of boost which is about where I want to run. 400hp at the crank would be my mark, up 100 from the 300 currently.

Does anyone have any thoughts or information around this? I was thinking about pulling the heads and getting the block o-ringed with custom thick head gaskets. Does this work? Pulling the motor and fitting lower compression pistons would probably break the bank.

Matt.

Matt,

You don't need to lower your compression to supercharge your motor. I'm aware of the fact that the Euro motor is around 10:1 and the US motor is 9:1 but it will not make a huge difference. The good thing a Euro 300 hp SEC has a knock sensor that will retard the timing if it senses detonation. Really all you need to do is get an effective intercooler. My methanol/water injection works great.

Hi Jim - I assume it's Jim.

Is there sufficient space to mount an intercooler anywhere? At the front of the radiator there are fans which stick out a bit far.

Cheers
Matt.

Matt,

I'd say you could mount an air to air intercooler but it would be much easier to mount an air to water interccoler. The space is really tight but you could make it work if you have a very experienced person with a mandrel bender. You will probably have to cut a few holes for an air to air intercoler to get the plumbing to the front spoiler. I'd say it is doable but it will be very expensive.

Does the water/methanol injection give a similar benefit in terms of cooling the intake charge as a small intercooler? I take it you aren't planning on intercooling?

Cheers
Matt.

Matt,

This is the system I use in my SEC: http://www.snowperformance.net/

I would like to install an air to water intercooler but this was the least expensive option and it works perfectly. When the methanol/water injection is activated it feels like a 100 shot of NOS. The tires usually break loose if I'm below 50 mph.

Where did you mount the nozzle Jim?

Matt,

Do you see the red tube attached to the back of the intake pipe before it enters the CIS. Well, that's it. http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/SECengine4_WEB.jpg
