Anyone installed Porsche GT2 calipers and 993 bi-turbo rotors?

Check out these sites: http://www.ultimategarage.com/bigbrake1.html http://www.movit.de/rahmen/mercedes.htm

There is a lowered bright red 300TE with tinted windows and Lorinser rims running around in our town that has drilled rotors/painted calipers - can't tell if they are Porsche units, but I will try for a closer look next time I see it and ask the owner!

This link gives more info on these Porsche brakes, and why they are NOT the same as standard Brembos:

Hi guys,

If U wanna upgrade ur brake "Don't" use the Porsche unit!! Because Although Porsche brakes are excellent they were designed with Porsche cars's weight distribution bias in mind. Therefor, it won't work as well on other cars as on Porsches.

Just my 0,02

I don't know what the Porsche weight distribution is, but isn't all moot, esp. when you put brakes from say a SL600 onto a 400E which also has a different weight distribution?

I think the key to not having nose diving front brakes, is to replace the rear brakes with something complementary, or run a bias adjuster.

What do you all think?

Almost all Mercedes cars have about 54/46 Weight distribution while most Porsche 911s have something like 40/60. Of course when u upgrade ur brakes to Porsche's Brembo sourced brakes the braking performance will improve dramatically. What I meant was that the same GT2 units will perform better on 40/60 cars than on 54/46 cars cause they were designed to work for that.

Happy motoring,

ET

Guido's Porsche/Brembo setup is designed for each car individually. You can install the system only on the front if you want. Weight distribution is taken into account by either changing the bias spring in the master or adjusting the proportioning valve. One guy who I know has the front brakes only. He says that when you hit the brakes, it's like throwing an anchor out the window! And BTW, the owner of the Ultimate Garage owns and E55.
