Gentlemen,

I just bought a 1992 500e over the weekend. The CD player doesn't work on it. The Radio display show a CD is select but no sound comes out? Any obvious places I should check before I take it to a shop?

Any problem inserting/removing the CD cassette (holder)??

1st, make sure the cassette is fully loaded with CDs; next, insert it with the radio on. Next, at the Head Unit select a disk other than 1 and see if it loads/plays.

I think I zeroed in the problem with the CD player. There two chips on the circuit board made by Toshiba p/n tc9200 and tc9201. They are are servo controller chips. The question is then who mades the CD changer for the 1992 500e. In addition where do I go to get the parts? Do they change out the circuit board when repairing this?

I have an E420 with the same problem. The dealer's audio subcontractor found and fixed the same chip problem refered to above in the Alpine CD changer but it turns out there is a problem with the Becker radio. By the way the mixed brands were delivered new with the car. I will send the radio back to Becker on their $135 exchange program.
