160+ in my S4 (at the time I was running chipped at 320hp).

If anyone in the Seattle area is looking for a good top speed run, head out to north bend and between milepost 26 and 30 is a 3 mile long downhill 4 lane staight!!!!

In My Wife's 1986 300E with 143,000 miles. I hit 137MPH with 4 people in the car. No photo though.

Haven't tried the 1992 400E. After the Suspension and Wheel change I'll try a 150MPH run.

Saliya

Seattle S4,

Are you doing this regularly? I'm a cop magnet (I've no idea why), so the opportunity to test the top end on the C280 has not come up.

Whats your secret? Are there no "hiding places" or is this a truely deserted area?

I think I hit my top speed of 8mph here in the bay area. Still haven’t found good truly deserted areas around here either.

When I wasn't in the traffic ridden bay area, here's a few top speeds I came across:

Hit 100mph in my parents '95 Suburban, that was fun, but learned that it has a gas shut off at 100mph exactly...

Hit 115 in my old Audi GT Coupe... that was a fun car. Happened to pass a CHP going the other way, but was lucky enough to notice, and ditch him before he could catch up.... phew. Also hit 115 in my '80 VW Rabbit L, stuck a 16V Golf GTI engine and converted it to a manual tranny with some sticky tires and that thing flew (for a Rabbit).

Still waiting for the opportunity to reach 145 in my 400e... I think it will be a while before I can do that :-(

How fast does a 1980 MGB go? hehe Drove with foot flored at redline from LA to Eugene oregon. was probably at about 90-100 mph if that. hehe - my old british classic.

Hows about 130 MPH in a 76 porsche 911S 2.7. And had room for more. - brothers old porsche

120 Mph all the way to vegas in an 85 190e 2.3 - brothers old benz

125 mph in a 94 sl600 on sunset blvd. in Beverly hills. but only for about a second before I slowed down hehe. - dads current car

110 mph in my 92 300CE so far.. hehe

speedo pinned in my 83 gmc jimmy k5 I used to have proabably around 100 mph.

115mph in a 1977 MGB bored to 2.0 litres. - uncles car

Speedo pinned in my 89 jeep cherokee I still have.

130 mph in an 87 maserati biturbo - car my dad had

Not sure how fast in the 68 vette with 327 (Raised weiand manifold, holley 750, MSD ignition, the works) and hurst 4 speed, but was redlined in 3rd. before I decided to slow down. - car my dad had

135 in a 1997 M3 - friends car I was driving.

140 in a 1987 560SEL - car my mom used to have

120 in a 1986 Jag XJS V12 Custom convertible - also a car my mom used to have

75 in a 66 caddy convertible - car my dad had

110 in a 1971 Jag Etype V12 - car my dad had

85 in an 83 rolls royce Silver Spur - yes it had more, but some freeway debris hit the car, caused $2500 damage for a small fender ding and new indicator. car my dad has

speedo pinned in an 87 nissan pathfinder to palm springs. - friends car.

55 knots in a 21 foot 84 chris craft deep v 260 hp boat.

Theres more, just can't remember em for the life of me. hehe

Alon

Each car drove nicely at one time, but most of them ended up turning into junkers - the mg's, the caddy, the vette, the jag's, the trucks.

Only cars that still look and drive great are the german ones. though the rolls does drive quite nicely for a car with around 200k on the odo.

You guy's are going to laugh but, I've gone 95 with my 300E on a ceratin open road on Long Island. The car was stable and seemed to suck itself down to the ground going that fast, and it still had a lot left. I have been in my fathers 300SD at 120 mph, and that thing was stable as well.

115 mph southbound on I-5 just north of the Grapevine (L.A.). The 190E was very stable. As I started up the grade, I lost speed; the V12 Jag that I was cruising with left me in the dust. It all worked out for the best, since two CHPs nailed him and a Z/28. A known speed trap. I honked as I went by. Ha Ha.

I never knew that a C280 had a top speed of 150 mph. I always thought that they were limited to 125 or so.

Mine had the limiter reprogramed. Also, I have the DOHC M104 engine, which will probably do better at high speed with the 5-speed tranny than the new 3-valve one will. For pure performance, 4 is better than 3. It was indicating 150+ when I backed off. I was at 6200 rpm. 6400 is redline.

Ton Up

120mph recently in my '87 190E 2-litre 5-spd with 125K miles, about the same in an '84 BMW 320i.

100mph approx (speedo only reads to 95!) in my '70 Morris Traveller with 1275cc MG Midget engine.

80mph in a 594cc Fiat 126, going downhill (my first car)

I always feel the need to max my cars to see what they'll do.

140 mph in a '90 Jaguar XJ12 (Not mine) - Was floating a little. I pushed my old boss to "give it some" and he got ticketed at 100 mph on a back road in WI. We switched and he urged me to go. After 25 miles on the tollway at 140 he wanted the wheel back. No ticket for me (whew).
130 mph in my old '85 Merkur XR4ti. Floating badly. Stood on the brakes and they groaned loudly.
125 mph on '82 Suzuli GS750 and Yamaha XJ1200. The Suzuk wobbled so badly I was sure I would lose it. Too much tollerance in the swing arm bearings - even the new ones.

I have only had my '85 500SL Euro to 110. It's lowered with 16" wheels and 50 series tires. Solid like it's on rails. I'm still sorting it out and want to balance the wheels and such. I want to be careful while reckless driving. I don't get any track time so it's public roads that support this insanity. I love to go fast but fear speeding tickets.

210 km/h--> 130mp/h in my C250D(iesel)
250 km/h--> 155mp/h roofless and windows down with my R129 (300SL)

But the biggest speed-thrill I've ever experienced was 185km/h--> 112mp/h in a 190E 2.3-16 whilst towing a trailor!!!

greetingz,
