Speeders

I did 1840 miles once in 18.5 hours on a BMW R90/6 with factory S fairing and Krausers. It was tricked out with San Jose suspension, mag wheels and a hot ignition, otherwise stock. Averaged over 90 Yakima to Spokane on the same maschine.

Top speed was the speedo jumping from 115 to 125.

Ausgezeitnet!!!!

I'll put in my 2c worth also

Ok here goes, from the land down under.

1979 BMw323i 185 kmh middle of the night on country road (Worried about kangaroo's popping out so slowed down -they jump towards lights in the dark)

1975 W116 350se fully loaded with 4 other people 180kmh and we all thought this was silly and dangerous so we slowwed down(But was real smooth up to 160 kms and very steady)

1982 W123 wagon 210kmh started to be a bit unstable , so i backed off. was stable at 180 kmh though.

1948 Chrysler Limousine (7 Seater) 75mph (not sure what that is in kms about 120kmh) started to shake a lot and wheel vibration, so backed of (this one likes to cruise and take its time
To see this car look on my work web site www.weddingreception.com.au

2000 HSV commodore (You may have them in the states as Chevrolets rebadged ) Here is the web site www.hsv.com.au
240kmh I was not driving and I must say I did not want to go any faster, [URL=http://www.hsv.com.au]

So thats is from me in the land down under not so lucky with exotics, the hsv is the most exotic so far.
Maybe in my next life.

Regards
BB

During time I was working in Deutschland drove BMW's and MB's as fast as they would go. Also put in 15 laps at the Nurburgring in 320i and 728i (1998 Euro models)
320i good for 135mph
728i for 150mph
SLK 200 with 5 speed 130mph
520i for 135mph
E200 for 125mph

I drove the 728 from Munich to Amsterdam with a total of 4 hours with my foot to the floor and got great MPG or KPL. Backroads are best, one being the Schartzwaldhohstrasse into Baden-Baden. Learned why the German machines are best and really liked the BMW's. That's why I bought a 190E 2.3-16, handles like a BMW, but its a Mercedes.

Wink

First car...74 VW super beetle, 1.6L stock...85MPH downhill (redlined at 4500); Borrowed 82 320i...85+ (don't know how much faster since speedo's that year only went up to 85!)

Second car...88 Acura Integra...indicated 118...redlined at 6800

Third car...92 325is...indicated 130 bumping off of the speed limiter (which was annoying...I think they are good for 140-145 or so without the limiter)

Fourth car...89 911 Turbo...indicated 152 at the Poconos

FIfth car...98 Toyota 4Runner...indicated 99 (scariest ride of them all)

Sixth car...01 E55...80 MPH (OK I still haven't broken it in yet, alright?)

On my frequent trips to Germany I always enjoy driving fast.
Even though the volume of traffic is the governor.
But, I manage between 160 - 220 km/h (100 - 137 mi/h).
Normally I get a Mercedes.
The fastest was 240km/h (150mi/h) for about 10 minutes, that was in the southern part of Germany between Regensburg and Passau with a E300. The southern part is not so crowded,
or you hit the Autobahn at 4:00 in the morning.
My car (here in the US) is governed to 250km/h(155 mi/h), supposedly goes to slightly above 300 km/h( around 190 mi/h), but, haven't found the governor either(yet). Anyway I would have to go Montana or the Salt Lake to take advantage of the speed.

Fastest speed I've gone (as a passenger)?

130 mph in a 1992 Nissan Maxima GXE, 3.0 liter, V-6, automatic. Seemed fairly refined for a mid-range Japanese sedan. V-6 made fairly good sounds too.

Have only taken my 380SE up to 103 mph (still had lots of pedal and RPMs left, ran out of road).

1998 LIncoln Mark VIII LSC

With 3.27 gears a .70 4th ratio I was able to hit 167 MPH verified by the GPS Navigation system I have installed my ride.

This is with the standard 300HP 4.6L 32V DOHC V8 engine that comes in the 98 Lincoln Mark VIII.

When this took place I had 145,000 miles on the car ( drive a lot on the hwy ) and never had a problem with the car.
Am currently looking for a 97-98 S420 or S320.

Thanks guys
chris

ps - this was with a chip so it removed the 133 mph limiter, and was done with Bridgestone RE730 ZR tires 245/50/16

Hehe, Chris, some of those American V-8's deliver really impressive performance. We rented a 1995 or 1996 Thunderbird sport coupe (?) once, and it seemed to accelerate quicker (and with better torque, but then it was a V-8) than the 1990 Acura Integra LS that I was driving at the time. And that Acura was a below 7 sec 0-60 car.

Of course, all this reminds me of the time I tried to keep up with a Ferrari 512BB somewhere in New Jersey. I was driving a 1972 Olds Delta 88 Royale Coupe, and it started to vibrate pretty bad around 95 mph, so I had to back off. Fastest in that car? When it was much newer, I did have it up to 120 mph. 455 V8, fuel economy, huh? LOL

Speeding in Europe

A late posting, but I thought I'd share my top-speeds as well.

- 140 km/h in 1984 190D
- 160 km/h in 1993 Honda Civic & 1992 250D Turbo
- 170 km/h in 2000 VW Polo 1.4
- 190 km/h in 1998(?) Fiat brava

The first one is my own car, and if it hadn't been for that fact (and the fact that I would have lost my license if I were caught) I would have pushed it more. Top speed according to MB: 160km/h

The Honda was a rental car I had while mine was beeing fixed after some jerk hit it, and started to feel really unstable at these speeds. The 250D Turbo belongs to my parents and should be capable of 200km/h or more, but the fact that it is my parents stopped me from going any faster

The Polo was a rental car I had in Germany on my summer-holiday 2000, and was a fairly good car to drive, untill the speedometer broke. It then said 220km/h regardless of how fast I was going Top speed according to VW: 160km/h

The Fiat was the car I got as an exchange for the Polo, and had a top speed of 180km/h (according to Fiat).

I posted a few months ago that I hit 140 on my 560SEC's speedo and about 40 people damn near lynched me for endangering their lives, etc. I am amazed and "happy" to see that this has not happened in 127 posts. Do not start now all you "Johnny Doogooders" I have enjoyed reading this post and nobody mentioned killing themselves or anyone else. Keep them coming people!

Last night, I hit 110 in my "other car", a 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo, driving home from the Dave Matthews concert at the Gorge, Washington. The Volvo at speed just isn't like a Benz. But we already know that that's a rhetorical statement, anyway, right?

-Sam

Plus, I blew by a green Volkswagen Camper Bus, when I was pushing 95 and he was doing approximately 45 (on the straight and level) and also was weaving around. Someone smoked too much green stuff while watching Dave.
