vacuum gauge on 16v

currently i have an vacuum gauge that reads pressure from one of the rubber vacuum hoses connected to the fuel injectors. i know that this is not the ideal place to read intake vacuum. would reading vacuum from the nipple near the intake runner closest to the firewall give a more accurate reading? it has been explained to me that this nipple (unused on my manual trans model) is for some type of vacuum control for the auto trans models.

thanks,
