Please enlighten me...

Is AMG working some side projects??

KNanthrup 03-03-2003 07:53 PM

lol, i don't know... i figured it was probably some company that used the letters AMG in coincidence but the AMG letter styling on the cover looks just like the font used by our ///AMG

DuckMuck 03-04-2003 03:44 AM

Have a look...quite interesting...

Mitsubishi Galant AMG

DuckMuck 03-04-2003 04:54 AM

Yes, AMG...as in Mercedes-Benz tuner AMG...I believe this engine was from the Mitsubishi Galant tuned by AMG during the late 80's/early 90's...

Speedtek 03-04-2003 03:17 PM

Yes it is real. They also had Honda Accord stuff for the 90 4 door.
Body kits, Engine Mods & Suspension. This was conceived before MB absorbed them. They were going to expand to other markets by using their tuning resources. When they got absorbed by MB all that stuff got tossed.....

Mercedes should buy it and promptly destroy it.

s60 03-06-2003 11:09 AM

Well, don't know much about AMG doing other imports. I do know that HKS did a 300E. It used to be on the back of their product catalog back in the mid 90s

KNanthrup 03-06-2003 07:15 PM

wow, anyone have any links to the HKS 300E? I think that would be REALLY interesting to see.

They're connected

Even today, MB (or DC as they now like to be called) has a joint venture with Mitsubishi (established before, but solidified by the purchase of Chrysler, who was a controlling partner in Mitsubishi Motors) to build a van or SUV or something for the european market and several other sedan and coupe models for the US.

Happy Motoring :D

In typical Asian fashion, this is a rip off copy-cat tuner. This is a company mostly known in Japan for body kits...etc. They just happened name themselves AMG! Again, more show than go.
Hey is that a real Rolex you bought in China Town?

rbmercedes 03-07-2003 05:33 PM

The Real Deal!

Not a rip-off or "Asian Copy," it's the real deal. AMG is a respected name in Japan. I lived there for 7 years, and can tell you that A connection with a "foreign" company means big $$$ for the company that brings it to market.

See my previous post for the details of the "union."

Brian, you of all people should know that Mitsubishi and Daimler Chrysler are in bed together, there's a joint manufacturing plant just up the road from you in Normal, where they build Eclipses, Galants and Dodge Avengers on the same platform.

Happy Motoring:D

I showed the picture to my friend who is a grey-market Jap engine importer (Skyline). He is very familiar with hotrodding trends unique to Japan. He (not I), believes AMG is being copied in Japan. Similar to the AMG-type wheels sold by Performance Products or Tire Rack except they copy the logo as well. I am NOT saying AMG isn't working with Mitsubishi. But he did show me a fake Edelbrock valve cover that came on a GTR engine. On it was stamped MADE IN USA. He said an island near Korea was renamed Usa for the sole purpose of saying USA on it's products.
Sounds like a good plot for a Oliver Stone movie.

Oh gosh, I haven't head that old story for so long! Usa has existed for several hundred years, so the renaming part is bunk.

Usa, Oita prefecture, northern Kyushu, Japan, 24 miles northwest of the prefectural capital Oita. The city developed around the site of the first and most famous of shrines dedicated to the Shinto god Hachiman, Usa Hachiman Shrine, which dates to about 717-724.

Before World War II, Usa was known in the United States for its manufacture or distribution of products labeled "MADE IN USA," in an apparent attempt to deceive those Americans avoiding Japanese goods. Today the city's industries turn out machinery, textiles, and rice products (such as ame, or rice jelly), and the region grows rice, vegetables, and mandarin oranges.
