Defeat Switch ASR?
I am sure you can but contact Carl or Steve at Bergwerks. (818) 843-5655, email Carl@bergwerks.com. They have kits with installation instructions.

I haven't yet...RennTech switch and yes, I and a friend will install...don't think its that hard but it is involved because you need to get into the dash and such.
Performance Products sells a kit but I've heard the instructions aren't helpful at all. Someone posted the RennTech instructions here and they seem to explain it very well. I look forward to seeing the car with full power at the wheels with this switch. |

Performance Products, they no longer sell a kit, they had problems with quality, and they have no plans to offer the switch in the future. I spoke to Carl (Bergs) and he does not have a switch, but gave me some good advice, also e-mailed renn-tech to find out if they offer the switch for my 400E, no response yet?
So I'm still looking for a way to control my ASR. enjoy your drive, timreid

Is it the same procedure in my 90-300TE? same ASR module as 400E and 500E?

Renntech is nice, but way overpriced. Bergwerks does the same, and if you want you can make a DIY switch like many people on here have done. I just dont see what the point is on spending 1100 dollars on a switch when you can just pull a plug under the CAN by opening the hood, other than convenience.

I'm going to DIM (Do It Myself!) Renntech and Brabus is way overpriced! The Q is if my ASR/ABS module is the same as in 400E and 500E

You can use the brake switch according to the Star
There was a piece in a recent Star issue asking about an ASR defeat switch (I can check the issue at home).
The reply in the Star was that you could disable ASR at the brake pedal switch. There are two circuts there one to put the brake lights on and the other to disable the ASR (so its not trying to do its thing when you are applying the brakes). This sounds like a vastly simpler method than the ones recently discussed in forums here. I'm planning on trying it in the spring when I get my 400E on the road. Has anyone here put an ASR defeat switch using the brake switch? Paul |

If someone could figure out what the 3 wires on the DIY ASR switch on 500E are, then there should be no problem!
My guesses are: 1. Enginecut signal 2. speed signal to ASR 3. ? suggestions? ES |

Here is the info from the Jan/Feb 2003 Star (US mercedes club publication)Page 85
The question was on how to get an ASR off switch on models that dont have an ESP off switch. Their answer; "Some of our advertisers sell a switch to defeat traction control for this purpose. See the Performance Products catalogue or web site () The switch is not difficult to wire yourself, and this will let you slide the back end all over the place. Another way to accomplish this is to figure out which of the two co-located switches in the brake light switch signals the traction control system that you are engaging the brake pedal, then route a defeat switch to engage that signal. The brake light switch is normally open, and the other switch is normally closed. Wire the normally closed circut so that it is normally open, and you have defeated the traction control. The traction control disengages when it gets an open signal from that portion of the brake light switch, so you are telling it you are braking. Simple, eh? You can learn an amazing amount of information from factory manuals. Of course this is for off-road use only..." |

Brake Light Switch
This approach does NOT work on LH cars with ASR. I doubt it works on HFM cars either. It is part of a solution that can work on the old CIS-E cars with ASR.
LH cars will still throttle back the car based upon the wheel speed signals. BergWerks is now selling the DIY kit, similar to the one put together by Mike Curcio on this board so the kudos go to him, for $300. It includes a Mercedes "ASR Off" switch and plug, all the wiring need to install along with the directions.

I've been trying to take it for a spin with the brake pedal slightly depressed (excuse my english, long time since my schooldays! )
My conclusion is: It works the same way as the snow chain switch! Only difference is that the (!) light does not light up! Above 40 km/h (25mph) the ASR kicks in! BTW my car, 90-300TE, has KE Jetronic ES |
