Koni Sport Adjustment
i have eliminated the SLS on my 16v and have Koni Sport Adjustable shocks on the rearr (the ones for the 8v). i have had them set at the most firm setting since i installed them. yesterday, since i had the tires off i tried adjusting them to a softer setting to see how it felt--no problem. today when i tried to adjust them back to firm i had a problem. when i pressed the adjustment button and turned the shaft on the driver's side rear, i did not feel any clicks like i should have felt. the shaft turned easily, as if i was not adjusting the stiffness. i released the button and tried again a few times but i never felt the clicks that indicate i'm actually adjusting the shock. now the driver's side rear is softer than the passenger rear. I have 26 series shocks so the adjustment only adjusts the rebound.
does anyone know what's happening? did i damage my shock somehow? thanks,

I saw that on a set of Konis several years ago. If the shaft wasn't pulled all the way out, then pushed completely in before trying the adjustment, the mechanism wouldn't click or adjust. I have the sports on my C230 but haven't tried to adjust them off of the softest setting yet - it is pretty close the way it is, so I am waiting to the next rotation to see if I want to bump them up a notch.

I had the same problem with a set of Koni struts on my 190 8V.
One thing that worked for me is setting both shocks to the softest setting and driving it. Then try to adjust both at the same time to the harder settings. I'm not positive on this but I think that even if you don't hear the clicks you are still adjusting the shock, just keep track of the amount of rotation. I would also give Koni a call and find out if they have a quick fix other than this. The other thing to note is that when I purchased my shocks Koni recommended I don't put them in the hardest setting for at least a couple thousand miles until they have broken in. This may not be required anymore but it's definitely worth looking into. I didn't do this and blew out one of my struts, luckily they warrantied it but what a headache! Good luck and let us know what happens

i tried again today, but this time i completely removed the shocks to be certain that they were fully extended when adjusting them. everything worked as it should and the ride is again as it should be.
thanks for the help.

Note that KONI's have a lifetime warranty as well, so if they do break you get a new one free. I had one of mine blow out after a year or so and they replaced it no questions asked. Set them at the softest setting and only stiffen them up when necessary, otherwise as they wear you'll have no adjustment left. That's what the KONI tech told me, anyway. Worked fine on my 300E.

When I called Koni for installation instructions, they recommended I start off at the factory (softest) setting.
Than work my way up if I want a firmer ride. I am happywith the factory setting. Doubt that I ever will go firmer. But than I am living in New Jersey were road conditions almost force you to buy a SUV.
