Question superchips

I have a Euro C180 from 1994 and it has very little power like 90kw and torque is also low. What if I put in a superchip designed for this model and it wrecks my engine or cause expensive damage to parts? Who will be responsible for this if its done by their own licenced installer? Next question is why can't they map the improvement in power lower down the scale to where we normally use the rpms like 2000rpm at 80kph is normal city/suburban main roads and 2800 to 3100 for freeways at 100 to 110kph? What good is the improvement when you get it at 4000 to 5000rpm? Thats the redline already and you would be doing a drag race or you'd be trying to outrun a cop car on your tail!!! What I need is a maximum boost from the starting position 0kph up to say 110kph and less after this speed because legally we cannot go above this anyway. At the moment the take off speed in 2nd is very slow and we are left behind by the Hyundais and Suzukis. I want to go off like a proper car costing 4 times as much!!!

1. If you mess up your engine with a performance chip, you will be responsible.
2. All a chip does is increase the fuel & ignition timing advance ( some also change the shiftpoints on your transmission and possibly remove the speed limiter ).
3. If you do get chipped, you realize that you have to run top grade premium gasoline all of the time.
4. The power gained by a chip is minimal, regardless of what they advertise. You would be wise to get the car dyno-tested before & after, if you decide to go the chip route.
Hope this helps a little.

Hocky,

If the engine blows up it's down to you to fix it, no tuner is going to guarentee an engine after a re-chip.........

Hard-won experience has taught me that you nearly always end up throwing far more money at a small-engined car trying to make it perform, than you would by buying a bigger-engined equivalent..............

My advice FWIW is to trade-up to a larger engined C-class and enjoy all that extra torque.

The fuel consumption will also be better than a superheated buzz-box, so the trade-up will end up paying for itself.

Horses for corses.
