Accidently put 87 octane in the E500!

OK

I just put 20.3 gallons of 87 octane in the tank rather than 93. Whats the concensus:

Don't worry keep driving, car will retard timing when necessary, or
put in some octane booster, or
use my syphon pump to transfer the tank into my landcruiser which runs on 87?

My inexpert opinion: If it's pinging or knocking, siphon it. If not, drive it. My 500E seems more tolerant of bad gas than my Chevy Tahoe Vortec V8.

Just drive it gently, no flooring it, no excessive start ups, and you should be fine.

"...drive it gently, no flooring it..."!!! What?!? - I'm only human and have needs! Maybe I should give it to my wife for the week.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will go easy on it and the weather is still cool. When I get down to 1/2 tank I'll fill up with 93 and average up.

LOL is that possible for a 500E500 owner???

Your car should be ok, but maybe drive half the tank out and fill with 93 to mix...

The Hot Rod section is such a tease for us non-m119 owners...oh well my FI project shall be on the way soon i hope :p

Greetings Randy- if I were you and it weren't too much of a pain---

Drain it into the other car- then fill it up w/ 93 and not worry about it...why make the E500 suffer with low octane if you can help it?

best regards
-fad

Randy, I'm sorry to tell you but you have destroyed your engine. It will be no good to you at all. Please put the car on a flatbed and send it to Seattle. I will dispose of it for you.

As always, Happy to help.

Siphon it into the landcrusier. I have noticed in my car if I run 91, then 87, the gas milage is horrible, then I go back to 91, and it takes a coupe tanks to get back to where it is supposed to be.

Octane booster? Is that the stuff you pump straight out of the oil wells over there in Texas?

Don't get me wrong, cowboy! With a name like Stetson, how could I possibly hate Texas? Every LAlien envies your wide open spaces. Good for fast drives near you, I hope.

I don't doubt Octane Booster would work - it just seems like a waste of money when Randy's already got a vehicle he can donate the gas to. Anyway, I suspect he has already solved the problem.
