WOW...... 500E vs 03 M3...who wins?

I'm driving back to work this afternoon in my 92 500E, as I come up to a red light there is a guy sittin in his brand new 2003 BMW M3 Conv. So I quickly ship my tranny into first cuz I know we gonna do it, the light turns green and off we go and I know it may be hard to believe but I SMOKED this guy..yeah I said SMOKED I was ahead of this guy by at least a car and a half length in front of him and I still was pullin away as we were reaching higher speeds. Now before we raced I thought to myself there is no way I can beat him but I did, for a second i figured maybe this guy can't drive for sh_t but the car was an automatic so there is no way he didnt know how to drive. anyway this is my story just thought some of you may want to know that next time you pull up next to a new m3 u will win. hopefully.

Nice kill!

The convertible is considerably heavier, and I think the extra pounds definitely hurt acceleration times. Between the weight and the auto tranny, I wouldn't be surprised if his 0-60 is in the mid-5 sec range or higher. Also, his engine probably wasn't broken in fully yet. But who cares, a kill is a kill is a kill.

One thing's for sure, he must've been confused as hell.

oh yeah he was, he didnt even attemp to come next to me at the next light, he just turned into a side street. I love it when people spend $50k on a car they think is fast just to get smoked by an 11 year old luxery benz. LOL

veni, vidi, vivi, vcci

I just had an IDENTICAL experience, last night:

Some chucklehead thinkin' he was the Shizzzz-n-fizz with a capital "S" was frontin' his new drop-top-frat-boy supreM3
right next to me (Lane 1) at the light on Ashby (@ 7th), in Berkeley, CA.

When it was greenie, all I can say is I hope that dude was a Hendrix fan... 'cause he got Purple Haze(d) and Cross Town Traffic dazed
- right in front of Weatherford BMW (watch: now, there will be 10 CHP cruisers out there, next week).

CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRP!!!!!!!!!!!

(pop smoke/movement to contact)

B1#%H!!!!! M3thinks ...NOT.

Then, as if that wasn't enough, some high school boy in a Lexus IS300 tried to move on me *ON THE TOLL PLAZA* (!!!);
I was thinking, "relax, relax, deep breath... this is Copland... CHP galore..."

...but of COURSE I gave in to the sweet temptation to TEACH my pupil (what are friendly-drivin' tutors FOR, after all?):

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMP!!!!

When in doubt, knock 'em out.

Welcome to my world / Kill until killed... etc.

(NOTE: In no way can/do I condone confrntational/dangerous driving.
No pedestrains or motorists were harmed in the aforesaid events (only egos).
Notwithstanding, no radar / no video / no speed reading / no problem...)

Funny story!

I just had a modded (looking) Rx-7 try to lose me, on the highway. Bad choice of venues, for him.

About 130 or so he finally figured out that I wasn't about to be left behind! My 3 kids loved it!

I've read a few reviews of the M3 cabrio that say.. well.. it's a bit heavy and you have to really thrash the peaky six to get it to go.

Just as a note, I was following a new M3 coupe about a year ago getting on the tollway here in Dallas. We were going 40ish or so and he took off. I nailed the throttle to see how I could do but he was just gone fast and there's nothing wrong with my car's performance! Out of all my experiences with any car this guy pulled away from me the fastest (I usually pick my fights carefully though).

I also jousted with the prior version M3 that was modded to some extent (loud exhaust) and I could pull on him from 50-120. I'm sure I surprised the guy.

I'm sure Dads in der Fatherland do it everyday, but don't think it's a big deal (I'm still trying to figure out how to take them around a racetrack- at 7/10ths though )

...perhaps the M3 owner didn't wish to flog the vehicle to such a degree?

Some drivers/owners do not wish to fully tax their car's capabilities....I am one whom does not (purposefully)

Well many will argue that the driver of the M3 wasn't fully pushing his car but I know he was doing everything he could to try and take me, it just didnt help him.

Randall..

As far as I know it is always harder to keep up with another vehicle when on his tail rather then being side to side. I remember a few years back when I had my 93 Porsche C-2 Coupe (modified) and my buddy in his Testarossa was having a hard time keeping up with me while behind me, but if riding next to me he would take me by more then a car's length. The car/driver in front will always have the advantage of hitting the pedal while the fallowing car/driver doesnt know when to hit his pedal therefor losing anywhere from a 1/2 sec to a sec and a half which results in a unfair race. The only way to race is side by side. And thats how I beat this guy. I believe my car was faster then his although I strongly believe that a 6 speed M3 should have no problem beating an 11 year old 500E.
