C43 rotors are 332mm or 13.1 inches.

Sounds like AMG is scimping on the brakes. I bet the difference in the E55 and C43 comes in the calipers.

What about CLK55(W208)
Does it have the same Brake setup as E55 (W210) Same caliper and same rotor..??? Since C43 has the 13.1 rotor as well does it mean it has the same brake setup as E55 (w210) as well..?? Regardz, J Irwan

On the mbusa site, they said that the C36 has 12.6 inch rotors.
I would like to think that the C43/E55/CLK55 brake systems are all the same, but I am not sure. I have dual pistons with vented rotors, just like the E55. I have no idea of the W208 CLK55, but I would guess it is dual piston also.

The brakes used vary widely on the assorted AMG models. The newer stuff uses floating calipers I believe, while some of the older ones (W202?) still had fixed calipers? I forget. It's all in the service WIS docs if you're willing to poke around in there long enough (not easy to find). Basically it doesn't really matter, if you want better brakes for your MB that already has 320mm or larger stuff stock, you need to go with an aftermarket kit by Brembo or Movit.de...
Oh, btw, for a simple upgrade try to get Porterfield R4 or R4-S carbon-kevlar pads. They're amazing but not cheap. Regards, |

Buy them direct from Porterfield:
http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/ 949-548-4470 The R4-S is a street pad that is low dust and fairly quiet. The R4 is the race pad, noisy, dusty, doesn't work well at cold temps, and may wear very fast at cold temps. There's also an R4-E pad for endurance racing. I have the R4-S pads on my car. http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/pads.html They have limited applications for Mercedes but it's at least worth a phone call. Or if money is no object, they'll custom fab a set for your car if you send them some old pads to use as a pattern. Give them a call and chat with their tech department, they're VERY helpful and really know their stuff! Let us know what pads you end up getting. Good luck, |
