W126 on the track
Got back from the dragstrip with my 1988 560SEL
Here are my best ET 16.030 @ 87.312mph I couldn't get it under 16sec even though I took out the jack, spare and the tools. But I still beat my friends 1985 Camaro Iroc-Z Z28 It looks like I'm gonna have to rip out the cat and the resonators and buy myself a Remus exhaust

That isn't too bad for a 15 year old 4000+ LB car with a high rear end ratio!!

I think it's great that you even WENT to the track...kudos to you!
I quite frankly am getting a little tired of NEVER seeing other Benzes on track - I've just spent 9 of the last 15 days on track (Cannonball One Lap of America, then 2 days at The Glen) and not a Benz in sight. C'mon, guys, get off the bench and get in the game! Nothing's more fun for a car lover, eh? I think if more Benz guys tracked their cars, then maybe MBZ would start producing more cars suited to the track (read: manual transmission) - or am I just dreaming??

Racing Mercedes
I've been racing Mercedes for over ten years now. I believe the best way to show what you and your car can do is on a track. No matter the type, road coarse, drag stripe etc.. Smoking the tires from stop lite to stop lite benifits only gas companies and tire dealers. The only competition on the street now[ to me] is to stay alive. I'm a road racer, with SCCA putting the 190,s in 4 different classes, eprod, its, ita GT2 I would think there would be more cars racing. Racing ain't cheep, but niether are speeding tickets. Loosing your license would be no fun either.
See you at the track Bill T. |

I agree with Micheal. I've been racing for 5 years (ok in my 911 and GTI before my C280) and I have only seen one (1) 190 16v at the tracks regularly. I see more Jaguars than MB's mixing it up.
My buddy takes his E320 Avant to Road America and people faint at the thought. Hopefully the new 6 speed C32 will help change this stigma. |
