Quick! How much to pay for this 500E?
There is a '92 500E being offered at a dealer auction on Friday. The good news is the 28,000 miles. The bad news is some paintwork. Not bad but obviously done at a production shop. This dealer has been trying to sell it for at least two months with no luck. He says he needs around $18,000 but nobody wants to bid over $14,000. If I can get it for say $16,500, can I still break even in a few months after I've had my fun with it? I know how particular M-B buyers can be when it comes to paintwork but can't I still get lets say $18,000 for it even in the middle of a blizzard?

OPORD
1)
fill a brushed aluminum Halliburton with $16K in $100 bills, in brand new stacks, fresh from the bank; handcuff it to your wrist. slap on a suit and wear bell-bottomed slacks, if at all possible. ensure your hair looks like you just rolled out of bed. stay up for a minimum of 24 hours before the potential transaction. pretend you are auditioning for the movie, "Spun." 2) hire a sexy escort or bring your own gorgeous significant.other@home.org (dressed as a security guard) with you, as a prop, to distract the salesperson. 3) offer to pay $16K CASH; refuse anything higher due to the need for paint-work. insist you have your eye on one in San Francisco, too. show said currency ONLY if you can "speak to a senior manager, in his/her OFFICE," with your "security detail." speak as little as possible. do not smile for any reason. murmur barely audible phrases such as, "time is precious," "i'm just here to pay for my car and go," and "i'm somewhat pressed for time." appear disoriented, like a monkey on a NASA launchpad. smell of menthol. 4) have a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. volunteer to complete the transaction at a local bank, to authenticate the currency's as bona fide U.S. legal tender. 5) drive off the lot in your 500E or walk off with a wonderful thread-seed to post, here. write a screenplay. retire in decadence in Hollywood. (videotaped hijinx from unmarked van across the street optional. void where prohibited. see dealer for details.) Last edited by run.exe; 06-12-2003 at 11:12 PM. |

LOL Scott.......just picturing the whole scene, almost reminds me of gone in 60 seconds when Nicholas Cage is searching for THE Ferrari.
atikovi, I'd be really weary of a car that no one is willing to buy, especially with low miles and low cost. There must be something seriously wrong with the car. I'd look for: - Spun Mileage - Salvage Title - Major Accident - Major Mechanical Problems Most people looking for a 500 would jump at the chance to get one with miles that low and I would think most wouldn't care if it had minor paintwork. However a major wreckage would definitely scare people. Also try to find records and maybe have the dealer run a VMI to check for mileage accuracy. If everything checks out and you have the car inspected it's a steal. But beware, there is no such thing as easy $$$.

a low mileage car at such a low price! and no one wants it because it needs a paint job. Get that VIN and run a carfax on it. You could wind up saving yourself a lot of $$$.
