help! my front windows will NOT roll down!

The front windows in my 1993 500E will not roll down!

My fuses are fine and all switch connections are OK; further, nothing has changed in my car, electrically, in weeks.

Ideas, please?

Do you have an alarm system that controls the windows? If not, I'd bet it is a relay.

alarm

Neither my OEM (MBZ) nor my 3rd-party alarm controls my windows.

To what specific relay are you referring, please?

Will using your key in the drivers side door actuate them? Might be a way of pinpointing what is causing the problem.

No; neither placing/turning the key in the driver's side door lock nor turning the key in the ignition (to any position) solves the problem.

Not what I meant.........

Put the key in the door lock and hold it in the unlocked position for 5 seconds. This should open all four windows, if it doesn't open the front at least you've eliminated the front window switches as being the problem. If they do go down then look at the switches.

I have just tried this, unsuccessfully; all the doors unlocked - but all the windows stayed up.

Hmmm it works on mine, I just checked it.

Were your doors locked when you tried it? It should open all four windows almost immediately.

Lock the doors, then unlock but hold and the windows should open. If it doesn't then maybe someone with the wiring diagram can find the source of the problem.

Slight correction to procedure:
Turn key to lock the doors and hold in the lock position for 5 seconds. This activates the close all windows and sunroof feature. THEN, within 3 seconds, unlock the doors and hold in unlock position until windows lower. The lowering procedure is only works AFTER the raise procedure.

Glen

Here is what happened when I followed your revised/detailed instructions (thank you):

1) I locked my car from the driver's door and held the key all the way to the right for 5 full seconds.

2) 2 to 3 seconds, thereafter, I turned the key all the way to the left and held it there for 4 full seconds.

3) Both of the rear windows rolled down; neither of the front windows did.

I rechecked my fuses and they all look fine.

Hmmm... this points to a problem other than the interior console switches, no?

take out your fuses and put in new ones. One time, a guy I knew, looked at them and said they were fine, but they were broken at the top. Please try at least.
