OM616 Performance Upgrade

Does anybody know any ways to get a little bit more power out of an OM616 (240D 4cyl. diesel) without sacrificing engine life?

Thanks

Not much to work with there. I have heard that installing a fan clutch from a 300D will gain you about 5 hp. Never tried it myself though.

You can do very little with the motor. There was a turbo kit offered for this car when it was fairly new, it gave about 15 more horse power. Problem is that MB never intended it to be turbo'd and so the engine tends to over heat if you do. Unless a turbo pressure injection pump is installed you can not increase the fuel enough along with the boost to make good power. The only help would be to make sure it is timed correctly and the injector pintals are new, compression needs to read over 350 psi for there to be a working engine under the hood anyway......You could always drop in a 300 turbo motor ! Now there's a lot of work !

Yeah, I really want to do the Turbo conversion. I have a Mercedes Tech Friend who would also like to do one, so I may end up with a 617.952 in a wee while. Thanks for even bothering to respond to my post.
