Spencer ... I had a V1 and for the most part was very happy with it, especially the ability to identify the direction and the number of radar sources (bogies). I switched over to the Escort Passport 8500. I feel it is more accurate and more sensitive than the V1, and one can sense a front or rear bogie. Though the 8500 does not have a rear antennea like the V1, radar signals will be picked up from the front antennea due to reflections from objects in front of the car (typically). Also, coming back from the Morro Bay GTG, I picked up 4 Laser bogies through Santa Maria, where as another member with a V1 did not pick up one bogie .

And this one ... http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=1064

My $.02

BTW ... Welcome aboard!

Norman,

Was the person with the V1 running the old V1 or the newer V1 software?

Good Question ...

Female Pimp ... it was that Smoke Silver 500 that joined us at Morro Bay - I'll find out next Sunday at the Mt. Palomar run, or you could contact him directly. I strongly believe it was the lastest model because it had Laser Detection - the earlier models did not (well at least mine did not - bought in the early 90s).

But again, check out the links from the above posts on the independent test results.

BTW, the 8500 can be used in conjuction with a Laser 'Shifter' system that is also produced by Escort.

Yeah, I am using the current version of the V1. Depending on the mode you have it in, you will detect more or less. I run mines in advanced logic, because I want less false bogies. If I ran it in all bogies mode, I would detect damn everything. So that may have an effect on things.

The links rate the newer version of the V1 for Ka and Laser the same as the 8500.

V1

I've had a V1 since the beginning. I recently traded it in for the updated model. They have made a lot of improvements over the years. At the time the V1 came out, nothing could touch it. Nothing. Things may have changed. I'd be interested in hearing experiences from those who have compared V1 to the others.

A lot of radar test are bias one way or another. With that said, here is the Car & Driver Test. It rated the V1 #1, the Passport #2.

In my second car, I have a built in K40, which I am going to upgrade the software. People who I know that have it installed are pretty happy with it. Once I upgrade mines, I can compare it to the V1.

Hi Vince,

Next Sunday is definitely on! Check your email, I sent an update on Friday. We'll meet up at the same Diner in Temecula and we're going to skip Ortega Hwy and just drive to Palomar Mt. Hope you'll be there. Email me any questions.

As for radar detectors, I've managed to get by without one here in CA (KNOCK ON WOOD) I just find a rabbit, keep my distance, drive courteously and fast!:p
