I need more seat time
...in a 928. I know that my car's startlingly composed "upstairs" (above 100MPH) and presume the 928 is the same if not moreso.
That said, consider that it's largely understood that Porsche did much if not all of the development work (and specified the suspension settings) on the 500E500 suspension systems, and that MBZ threw Porsche this lucrative development and manufacturing contract at a time when Porsche was sadly cash-strapped. I bet this led to a few "secrets" that make these 500Es what they are-4 door Porsches. Lastly, isn't a 500E the only non-Porsche car ever reviewed in Porsche Panorama magazine??

hmmm...
I wonder if those 928 GTS FRONT SEATS can be made to fit in a 500E/E500...

I've long admired the 928GTS...that low mile example for $60k would most likely offer the lowest out of pocket repair costs while offering a 'new-car' like 928GTS experience-- my cup of tea!

Starting Bid $61,000
Lets see how much the E600 finally sells for and if there are any takers for this mint condition 928 GTS for an amount north of $61,000...........

super SEC, without a doubt the 928 is a rare car, but coming from a Porsche and Mercedes background, I definetely see 5-10x as many 928's come in on trade, service, or just around, than I do 500E500's. The 928 is rare, but this whole thing started because we were talking about how much of a rip "this E600" is, but on the other hand, their is a 928 for 61K, so the pendulum swings both ways.

Wait a minute. I didn't say that the E600 was a rip. I said it was a very nice car but I didn't think it would sell for over $40,000. The whole appeal of the car is that it has a high horsepower engine. The fact that it was modified by Renntech doesn't do alot for the value when you compare other cars that you can buy bone stock that will be just as quick and just as nice such as an M5 or Kleemanized E55. Not to mention, I'd bet you will not get a Mercedes dealership to work on that engine or suspension if it broke-down.
Yes, there are many variations of the 928. But that is like comparing a 300E to a 500E. They both have the same 124 chassis so really the 500E should be compared to the rarety of the 300E, right?. Yes the 928 rides on the same basic body but a 928 is not the same as a 928S, S4, GT or GTS. The later model GTS's are super rare - especially the 5 speed. They are much more rare than an E500. I wouldn't pay $60,000 for a GTS but it is stock and very low mileage. That GTS is what collectors will pay big money for. If that motor were modified and it had higher mileage it probably would have a hard time fetching $40,000. Given its condition and rarety, it will find a good home. If it does not sell on Ebay, it will sell privately. |

ANY MB dealer will work on that car for routine service- Thats from experience.

I said if the engine broke down. You saying they would repair a Renntech engine or replace your Renntech rotors? Oil and fluid changes do not count. Obviousily, that is very easy and should not differ from a Renntech or a Mercedes E500 engine. I'm saying if the engine suffers a major mechanical problem like a crank bearing failure or broken camshaft. They will fix that? Or, if the rings go bad. Will they install new rings? If so, that's great. I know they will not touch my supercharged SEC. My local dealership said they do not touch a car that is suffering a problem that is related to or includes any after-market parts nor will they even touch any non-Mercedes installed parts during a repair. Your dealership may differ.

Some MB dealers are now re-selling Renntech parts and will provide service on Renntech modified cars (Phil Smart, Seattle) may differ in other states.

That's great but does Mercedes know they are selling Renntech products?. It seems like it would be in some conflict with their licensing with Mercedes? I'm glad to see they are being so progressive. My local stealership sucks! |

Well, I have no idea if MB of North America knows about it. I just happened to work by that particular dealer and stopped in to pick up some parts one day and saw a 500SL with a full compliment of Renntech equipment on it...new car also.
They had quite a bit of Renntech stuff in the parts dept also. |

No Problem Here ...
My dealership, Hoehn Meredes-Benz of Carlsbad, CA ... installs after market goodies for me ... time and material, and a happy customer!
... but, no warranty of course.
