400E brake rotors and calipers on 190E

I am going to put the 400E front brakes on my 1991 190E 2.6 5-SPEED. Will my 15x7 track rims still fit over the new calipers ?

No, they will not fit. Potomac Pat has these brakes on his 16 Valve and he told me that the stock wheels would not fit.

Wooaahhh!!

Let's back up to the original question here and ask what brand are the 7" X 15" 'track' wheels. If they indeed are factory wheels, then correct, they won't work. If they are aftermarket wheels the possibility is very good that they will work. I have both a set of 7/15s and 8/15s aftermarket and both sets fit over my 400E front calipers. So there is hope...
Good Luck,

My C280 sport wheels I have for sale will definately fit, I put them over 500E front brakes the other day to check caliper fitment.

I believe 2phast has done that set up if you need to talk to him about stuff.

hope

my track rims are not factory wheels, they are indeed aftermarket. I can take a pic of the wheel on the car and measure the clearence to the stock caliper as i believe the offset is the culprit here not the diameter. Also, I could just put one of my rims on my buddie's E320 cab. as it has the same calipers ?

Can anyone post the sizes and offsets that are confirmed to fit over 400E brakes?

The original 6 x 15 from a W201 won't fit BUT almost all wheels 6.5 x 15 & larger will fit over the 400E brakes.

Now that's more like it . . . I've been asking this question for over a year! Since the '93 400E came with 15" OEM wheels, I knew that it must be the width and offset that prevented fitament of the 400E calipers on the W201. I believe 2Phast is running 17" wheels and Potomac Pat has the super light 16" CLK's, so they should have no problems with clearing. Does anyone know the offset and width of the later 400E rim?

Assuming the 400E ran the same fixed caliper (4 piston, I think) as the 300E-24 and 300CE-24 then any of the later 6.5 x 15 should fit. The original 15 hole 6.5 x 15 ET49 forged wheels of the W124 (single piston floating caliper) will not fit but the 24 valve versions got a cast version of the 15 hole wheel in 6.5 x 15 ET 49 (or ET48?). The 15 hole W124 Sportline 7 x 15 ET41 should fit. The later 8 hole 6.5 x 15 ET44 should also fit. These are fitted to my father's E320 coupe (which has multi piston front calipers) and presumably was the standard fitment to the E420. The 8 hole W124 Sportlines were also 7 x 15 ET41 and should also fit.

Greg is correct. Also note that offset does not indicate whether a certain wheel will clear calipers. That depends on the thickness and interior shape of the wheel, and unfortunately there's no way to tell for sure without taking the wheel in question and attempting to mount it. But all the wheels Greg mentions should fit.

Since it is for fitment on a 190E (and it has been mentioned already that the standard 15 hole W201 6 x 15 ET49 alloys won't fit over the larger calipers), it has got me thinking about another wheel I did not mention, the W201 15 hole 7 x 15 ET44 forged alloys as fitted to my 190E Sportline. I think these may be the same wheel as fitted to the original 2.3-16V. I wonder if they will fit? Given that the W124 6.5 x 15 ET44 will fit then I guess the W201 7 x 15 ET44 should also.

some measurements would be helpfull to know if the aftermarket 15x7 rims will infact work ? if some one could provide the crucial number, that being the measurement from the face of the 400E rotor hub to the edge ( farthest distance from the rotor ) of the caliper would be most helpful. Then I can simply measure the rims to see if they comply !!!!!!!!!

I have wheel spacers with the stock rims for right now. I am running 30mm in the front and 15 in the rear. You could probably run something small up front. 15mm didn't work for me, because I believe I have bent rims. 20 or 25 may work up front but I know for sure that 30 works up front and 15 clears the rear calipers.

See post #2, above. Appears the answer is "no".
