Tri-O-Rama at VIR in Sep - Anyone Going?

The Greater Washington Section MBCA will be hosting Tri-O-Rama at VIR Sep 12-16. Track days will be Monday and Tuesday.

Anyone from here going to participate? I am planning to run my 2.3-16 at VIR again (last time it cost me an engine rebuild
(you can read about it here) ).

Wish I could be there!

Regrettably it looks like I've used up my ration of track days for the next month - just spent 2 days "Lapping the Beaver" (BeaveRun) and 2 more at Mid-Ohio, so I'm all out of slicks & brakes!

Anyone have any ideas for October dates in the Northeast? PDA is running a 3 day event at The Glen - any takers?

Have a great time at Tri-O-Rama! And would someone PLEASE beat Cozza on the road course??

Lame Excuse Red Bull !

Michael, just mount those used Hoosiers you found and install the EBC reds I gave you at the Beaver!

I'm trying to get my ducks in a row and permission to run my 'bastard' 190 with MBCA. Yes, I'm a member but they have their rules to go by and I may not qualify. If I get the goahead, I'll be there for the Monday-Tuesday track events only.

Might be there

I picked up another Pilot Sport Cup to replace the one I corded at the Beaver; gonna save the Hoosiers for next season.

Working on getting my ducks lined up -but I should be able to make the show. I'll probably wander on down on Sunday; we'll see

Thumbs up That would be the class

Asked to be in that class but if I get turned down will ask to run
as a 'guest' and not be allowed points or interfere with the other drivers positions. After all it still is a Mercedes! Maybe need to drop a 340" Mopar engine in to keep it in the family....that would have the powers scratching their heads!

Anyway VIR is close by so will go anyway and help with the instructing if I get turned down. See you there....

I've been accepted!! BUT:

Yes, been accepted probably only because they are in need of instructors. I will be bringing the 'bastard' of the Mercedes family and can only run as a 'guest' meaning can't run for a trophy, accumulate any points or compete for a position. Who cares as I love the track so will be there. The powers made me an offer I can't refuse!

For those who are coming to VIR just for the track events and have not made a reservation, try the Hampton Inn at 2130 Riverside Drive as they have many rooms at $79. Call them at 434-793-1111 and then we can get the MercedesShop guys together in one hotel. See you there....

I returned to Virginia Beach to find Isabel hype overcoming everyone who did not have something better to do.

Anyway, VIR was wonderful as always, especially with very small run groups (12 cars). It was also wonderful to meet some of the faces that go with the names. Jim Lozoski (E Dream), Norm Crowe (NormC32) Mike Tobias (?) (Tobias MB) and my running mate Robby Ackerman. The weather was good and the track faster for some than for others. Norm ran the fastest timed lap of 139.026 seconds (84.6 MPH), Robby ran the fastest of the Modified class and I had the fastest acceleration run for the Modified.

On the other side, I had a problem mounting my new Victor Racers and ran on street tires. I had a problem with my supercharger duct as it blew off during every track session. I also believe that I burned a valve; my compression this morning was #1 170, #2 160, #3 145, and #4 165. While not a disaster, it means that the engine comes out again this winter. I WILL also fabricate a rock solid supercharger duct. Boost is well worth the effort as it recalibrates the "fun gauge".

I hope to see you guys on the track again sometime.

Nice car, Jim! And as always Great Job, Norm!

Love that track - very fast. And a big Thanks to TobiasMB for letting me run that wicked 190D of his - 400 Ford HP in a car that size is awfully entertaining. And the car garnered such respect that, even when Toby dropped 2 wheels off (again and again, apparently for my entertainment) he'd never get black-flagged! And if I could bottle the sound of that exhaust, I'd be a rich man (just ask E DREAM, who we passed on the back straight...amazing what 250 more HP will do for you).

So, anyone up for Pocono 10/11-12??

Thumbs up MercedesShop vets show them how...

Good driving Robby and Norm....the MBshop guys showed the MBCA regulars what performance driving is all about. Only wish that I could have participated and not have been a 'guest'
to see what the time comparisons would've been. Oh well, guess when you are outcast, live with it! But was still fun to pass an SLK32 going down the back straight!
Yes Michael, I was trying to get you to wet your pants but you're too seasoned for that. My four year old bias Hoosiers are hard as a 500UTOG street tire but the oversteer is a hoot. For this weekend, I'll soften the rear bar a little before going back to VIR.

As Michael spoke of Pocono, come on out you Nor'Easters for a great time on two different courses as PDA is using the East course on 10/11 and the North course on 10/12. Think about it as the rates are lower by $50/day for these courses vs. using the long course. A great deal and the temps are cooler!
We could combine this into a GTG even if you don't plan to participate on the track just to meet up and soak some suds!

Toby- Your 190 was the talk of the town !!!! 400HP big side and that KILLER SOUND, got me all stoked up !!!!! need anotha fix of that SOON. When that car passed me on the back straight, I did not even haf ta look in the reflective ta kno hoo it wuz

All in all it was a killer time hope to run with you guys again soon. NEEEEEEEEEEEED more speed

We had 4 C32s at VIR during the Tri-O-Rama event this past weekend. It was nice to meet old friends and new ones. Mike C. always has a story and Jim V. talked for the better part of an hour about the follies of adding boost to a N/A engine. Results to be posted soon.:

www.gws-mbca.org/ToR03results.html

There were also 2 SLK32s and an new E55 which showed everyone up in the acceleration runs.
