500E transmission not shifting?

Hello all,

Was starting on my way to work this morning and found that the transmission would not shift from second gear. Stopped and put it into park and then reverse...everything normal. Headed back home and again no shifting from second gear.

Any ideas??

Thanks
Gavin

You may have a stuck switch. IF the B switch sticks, it will do this. Also, if the kickdown cable or the switch below the pedal sticks the same will happen.

Thanks for your reply Benzmac,

First, can you explain what the B switch is?

Later that same day, I started the car from cold and let it warm up. Took it for a drive and eveything seemed fine...

Also, I have recently noticed that when operating the car cold, the shift from 2nd to 3rd will sometimes "flare". Do I need to get a service done on the transmission?

Gavin the B Switch is located on your shift gate. When you move your gear selector to the B Position you'll see that you can tap it to the right to put the car in first gear. I believe that is the switch Benzmac is referencing.

I believe there are many reasons for odd transmission behaviour... however, mine started to do exactly what your car is doing, and it meant a £1000 rebuild.

I had water getting into the transmission fluid through the radiator.
